1997 Deville HVAC Fan Not Working

Hi Guys.

This is my first posting here. It is also the first problem that I have had with my Deville since I baught it 3 years ago. I was driving the car today(90 degrees) with the AC cranking. Then all of a sudden the fan stopped( only the fan), not the compressor. Suddenly the fan came back on and then died again about 20 seconds later. When the fan died the second time, I heard a popping noise and smelled a strange odor. The popping noise sounded as if rubber diaphragm or something burst. There is still power to the fan motor, as far as I can tell. Is my fan motor blown or is it a relay???? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Alan

it isnt too bad to do just remove coil pack and remove fan in 3 pieces by un bolting all pieces
the just reinstall in reverse order inside housing

I found the three wire connector for the fan motor burned the large red wire. Just had to by-pass the connector and permanently solder the wires together.

Is this the same procedure for a 96 Deville? I just experienced the same problem, only with the heater on. Napa lists a resister pack...is that whats on the back of the fan or is it located somewhere else?
Thanks,
Jim

the module goes out often in the car. also be sure that the spark plug wires are off the motor housing as they will kill it

Well, it turned out to be the blower. Got one at the local auto parts store. What a job!! I had to cut the housing in 2 spots, remove the coils, and still fight to get it in. Once it was in, bend the metal back and now I am looking for sealer. I have duct tape over the top and front to seal. Any ideas what to coat the housing with?

The heater fan quite working on my mom's 96 deville the other day. She said she drove it and the heater never worked. I looked at it today, all the fuses check ok and the big red wire has power but there is also ( i think)a black and grey wire in the connector to the fan motor. Is the black a ground and what's the other for? The big red wire is hot with the key on or off. How should this be checked?
