What to look for in a 2000 F350 with 120k ??? EXrated 06-07-2004, 01:18 AM
A neighbor is selling a 2000 F350 SRW CC 7.3PSD, good looking truck but it's had 120,000 rough-looking miles on it. What are the main problems to look for in a truck that old, and with that many miles? The starter motor has been replaced, and there were a few other repairs listed (can't remember) Anyone advice for a truck that's been around the block this many times? WickedNYCowboy 06-07-2004, 11:48 AM Take it for a test drive and have it looked at by a good diesel mechanic. There aren't too many problems with them. For a more comprehensive list of TSBs got to http://www.Alldata.com 120k is nothing for a diesel. You could probably get anorher 240k if you take good care of it. ModMech 06-08-2004, 12:25 PM If it has been used for any towing, you should carefully check the condition of the ATF. If it is not good and clean, offer $1500 LESS because you WILL be replacing the trans. 97chevyman 06-08-2004, 02:12 PM another thing, go to napa or a ih dealer, and ask for the anti-cavative test strips. Test the anti-cavative levels in the coolant, if the levels are none or really low, tell him to keep it. Without the anti-cavative additive, you can trash a diesel engine in a short time. Ask for maitenance records, if he has never changed the coolant, you should be ok, because the factory fill is supposed to last to 100K. I change my atf every 30k, but you can get away with 60.
