Hey im up here in Oklahoma. Boring place to live, I was just wondering what the laws about Neon lights inside and outside my car are. I have blue undercar light, i know they are illegal but im just going to turn them on when showing off my car at parking lots and such. But how about inside? and laws against that?

It's already bad enough having outside. Don't even put anything inside.....for your own safety and savings. It will give you big tickets I bet. Especially in CA where cops are donut monsters.

ONE ADVISE FROM ME since this happened to me....$130 ticket. DO NOT turn on your lights DURING NIGHT near COPS ON BIKES!!!! I repeat, COPS ON BIKES! THEY WILL give you a ticket no matter what....the cops in cars are....rather less worrying. Most don't care.

Im pretty sure inside you are ok! If they can't see the bulb they can't do anything, i have neons inside and ive been fine, Just wire your neons to a switch, put the switch in your center console, just more stealth, you will be fine with the neons in your car, outside thats a different story!

neon lights inside your car are LEGAL if they are HIDDEN. meaning if you have them up under your dash, or under your seats. they just cant be out in the open. thats when they will cause a disturbance. I asked my friends dad who is a cop. he didnt wanna tell me that because he knows kids are going to have them in the cars, but he did anyway. but thats up here in Pennsylvania. Cops might be different down there. you might wanan go and ask a cop. they might lie to you, but i would just put them in if you really like them. just have them hidden. i have mine up under my dash and under the front part of my seats too. gives off a lot of light, but i got tinted windows so its pretty tough to see how much light they give off in the dark. good luck with them.

Hey, I was wondering if itz possible to take an under body glow kit and install it INSIDE the car, since I don't want to get ticketed for having it glow underneath the car. I think that would be cool. :) Maybe a ceiling mount would work... but I dunno. I think it would still be visible from the outside if I turned them on.

You would get a ticket for mounting them on the ceiling. They have to be placed either under your dash, under your seats, or somewhere hidden. If you have them on the ceiling they will give off a lot of light. and already those under car kit neons are really bright. there a lot brighter than any normal neon because there a whole hell of a lot bigger. so your ganna get tickets. you just wont get the ticket as high in payment as you would outside your car.

You could stick one of those tubes in your trunk so when you have the seat down showing your system, you could see the light, but that would be dumb to put them on your ceiling, take them back or sell them if your not gonna put them under your car, If you have neons under the dash or seat, they do give off light, but its not hella bright, don't worry about the cops, screw them, if your so worried about getting pulled over, which you wont for having them under your dash then don't get them! Thats why they make switches for them, so you can turn them off if you need too!

Yeah seriously. sell them if you really arent ganna use them under you car. What color are they? im looking for blue. i might be intrested in buying them off of ya depending the price. but if there blue im def. intrested. i dont have a problem driving aroudn with them on. i have 4 neons in my car all in the front. 2 under my dash and 2 right in front of the seats under my legs. gives off a lot of light but im not worried about it, i have the switch right next to me. I also drive around with the blue LED windshield washer lights on, but cops havent bothered me about them yet. so im not really worried. i'll drive with the under car kit on when im on back roads or in parking lots and on some main roads. but get back to me if your ganna sell them.

Hello

I have my neons under my dash and I haven' t had any problems with them.
Of course, I have a switch and it's off when I see a cop.
The switch is next to the shifter for easy access!! :)

check out the pictures.
the first one is the old with my old headunit (note:you cannot see the neon under regular seating position...i was almost laying on the backseat while taking this picture...I was trying to get the entire interior inside the view finder)
the second one is new with my updated headunit (sorry the picture came out dark)

enjoy

Unless you got $$ to throw away I would avoid this.
Cops will be on you in no time!

i have all my switches right in front of the e-brake on the shifter box thingy. when i see cops i used to just flip em off quickly, but its hard seeing cops at night, and i havent bothered turning em off and i havent had problems with them. i just ordered the indiglo foot pedals and ill see how things go with them now.

Whats up guys, I drive a 350z with an undercar LED kit. Sorry for cutting in on the honda forum but its the only place i found a thread for undercar kits. Anways, are undercar kits illegal or legal? and to what extent? I've spoken to PA cops, gotten at least three different answers, and the motor vehicle code reads like greek obviously. The majority of cops say that they are legal to have on your car, you just can't drive with them on. I.e., if you're sitting in a parking lot your ok. Well, last night i was doing just that at in a 7-11 parking lot while my date was getting a slurpee inside when a police car pulled up behind me and the officer said that not only are they illegal to drive with, but they're illegal to have installed period, "unless they're a show car, and show cars are illegal to drive on the road". (obviously this was all said with much more attitude) I went along with it and told him i would look into it to avoid a citation, just in case he happens to be right. However, thats the first time i've ever heard that from a cop. Does anyone know what the REAL answer is? thanks!

Your "cutting in" wasn't a problem. Re-awakening an old thread was.

If you had read the forum rules, you would have seen that you are asked politely but firmly not to do that.

Also, I'm sure there are more generalized forums here that address lighting issues, and are not tied to one make of car, that would be a better place for your post.

I live in San Francisco area and got pull over for my blue LED underglow. The cop told me that the only blue color light that can be shown on street is his police car. At the same time, inside my car, was fully lid in blue with every angle with blue lights and the cop didn't say anything about them instead he said "You must like blue color."

He gave me a fixed ticket just for the blue light under the car.

The funny thing was its easy to get another cop to sign off. The CVC code was just "unauthorize lamp" So I just told another officer that I had a set of blue fog light and I took them out. Signed~!

A new thread? Anytime I start a new thread I get told off for doing so rather than using an older one, and thats from a moderator!!! Someone please tell me if we are to use the search function and use old threads or to create a new one!?!?

Dude seriously read the rules:
"2) Do not bring dead threads (Old Threads) back from the dead. Using them as a source of research is fine. However, check the thread dates before you post and do not post in dead threads. Dead threads brought back to life will be locked. If you have a problem or question relating to the thread, start your own thread instead of posting in the dead one.

7) Use the AF Search function before posting questions. AF SEARCH Many topics have already been covered here at automotive forums and chances are some useful information has already been posted somewhere at this site. If you used the search and still have questions, feel free to make a thread and ask them, but make sure and let people know you have done research and used the search function already."

You haven't been told off for starting new threads. You've been told off for asking questions that have already been answered. Search old threads for answers to questions you might have BEFORE posting your question. You never know how many times it might have already been answered.

Good example:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=240464

Bad Examples:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=325804
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=325836

IMO it seems starting a new thread on an old topic seems to be cool as long as you have something NEW to add. Asking the same old questions over and over hurts the forum and discourages the ppl that have been here forever from looking at posts.

P.S. This question is another one of those same old questions that noone wants to answer again for the umpteenth billion time. Also I apologize if this has already been solved by a mod.
