i always read people talking about a removed u-bend, i have an educated guess on that it is part of the exhaust or the intake, im thinking the exhaust, does it just give it a different sound, more power or what...i have a 95 gp se, i dunno if i even have one...concidering i always see that people have newer cars and i think most/all have had a gtp...i wish i had a gtp...man, i wish i had a 3.4, but whatever man, the car was free...thanks for any help ahead of time....

The ubend is right after ur cat and where the 2nd oxygen sensor is located if u can replace it with a straight pipe and fitting for the o2 u would get about 5hp on a 97-2000. The 2001- don't have a ubend and I'm not too sure about 95gp.

Oh and if u remove it u could also remove the resonator and the change the Tpipe to a Y pipe and get another 3-4hps

allright, thanks, but all that seems a big waste of my time...5 hp doesnt seem like it is worth any money that i will spend on the pipe and fitting...also, the resonator is where the exhaust gets some of it's tone...wouldn't that make it sound bad or whatever? and i think i have a T pipe but listen to this, tell me if its normal though, where the exhaust splits into 2 for the dual mufflers/tips the pipe comes down the passenger side...the passenger side muffler has a more straight shot...and the driver's side is off to the side alot so they had to use a longer pipe...so anyways, where it splits it is like a quarter inch larger going to the driver's side muffler...so i have 2 different mufflers, the inlet is smaller on the one and bigger on the other...but the outlets are both the same because i have them stock tips that come down and then into a big oval type shape...

You can have this done at an exhaust shop for $20-30 that is a very good HP/$ ratio. I wish I could get 100HP for $400.

Yes we do. In fact, the U-bend exists at least through the 2003 model year.

Here is the stock u-bend, designed to protect the O2 sensor

If ur looking for more hp later on just keep ur stock exhaust and put a electronically cut-out before the cat. Just remember to shut it off when passin the cops ;)

Its a muffler+CAT+resonator bypass unlike some other cars where the cutout goes before the mufflers. Anyone knows why?

usually people put the cutouts before the mufflers at the Y becuase of clearance issues.

I have mine right at the Y. i used to have the Qtec, but that damn thing broke. The best place would be at the bottom of the downpipe.

What you have to do is have a shop cut a hole at that spot and then weld on a cap

5 HP may not seem like much..........but if you do three or four minor mods that net 5 HP each.........well, you do the math. Exhaust cut-outs are not an option for some people. I have little kids ad they would go ape shit if I were to start running open pipes....crying about their ears bleeding and what not!
