91 Dodge Spirit Still DiesIcekola 06-05-2004, 09:48 PM Hi Again, Still experienceing the same problems as before... 91 Dodge Spirit 2.5 Liter -- NON turbo. The car will run great for awhile, and then Lose power. Only seems to happen when it's really hot outside. Replaced the Distrubutor cap, rotor, pick-up coil (Hall effect), Fuel pump, filter, o2 sensor, Fuel pump Relay.... Still getting the same problem. No codes are showing up either. I took the air filter, assembly off to see what the carb is doing... If your lucky enough it will IDLE, and then when you give it the gas pedal, it bogs and wants to die.... Looking into the barrel of the carb, I see gas ontop of the butterfly (Throttle body Injected). As the butterfly opens, you can hear the engine bog... as if it's choking for more gas?? What can this possibly be!? that I havent already replaced. Most of the time the vehicle will run fine.... just when it's extremely hot out, that it leaves us staranded... We ait 30 minutes, after the engine cools, and it's fine again. Very frustrated --- Thanks in advance... ALSO --- Do they make OBD diagnostic tools for this car? (Besides the check engine light flashes) I would like to buy one, and see exactly what the computer is doing as this bigging starts to occcur, This way I could pinpoint the problem sensor, etc. --- Jason slantsixness 06-09-2004, 06:50 AM Throttle position sensor. PCV valve. Change them. the TPS is on the throttle body. Don't waste your money on a diagnostic tool that won't tell you any more than the flashing light does on this car. Slantsixness BleedDodge 06-09-2004, 12:48 PM What he said. ^ Hemi99 06-11-2004, 11:12 AM Check your vacuum hoses going to the throttle body, a cracked hose will give the same symptoms. Also check the AIS motor (Automatic Idle Speed) that has given me problems as wellwhen it gets stuck. If you live in a warm climate, check every vacuum hose in the system for signs of cracking or splits since the rubber dries out quicker. Any other symptoms you can describe would greatly be appreciated. karnoff 06-14-2004, 10:42 PM its the throttle position sensor my car had the same problem...i just got another sensor and replaced it...easy job. if it happens to you again, theres a vaccuum hose right above the sensor...just remove that then start the car up and it should work fine with the hose off. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
