New Wheels! (Lots of Pics!)joemathews 06-05-2004, 01:39 PM It is kind of sad that I ended up buying new wheels before my K&N filter, but I needed front tires pretty badly, and as it turned out when I changed the wheels, the back tires were worn very badly as well. So, the rims are Konig Verdict 17x7 Opal finish, although I haven't been able to put on the lug-nut covers because the damn lug nuts I bought are too tall! The dude I bought the wheels from said they weighed 17 lbs, but I'm not positive. Out with the old... http://www.people.virginia.edu/~jtm3n/images/swirlies1.jpg http://www.people.virginia.edu/~jtm3n/images/swirlies2.jpg In with the new! http://www.people.virginia.edu/~jtm3n/images/konig1.jpg http://www.people.virginia.edu/~jtm3n/images/konig2.jpg http://www.people.virginia.edu/~jtm3n/images/konig3.jpg This is what the wheels look like with the covers on: http://i8.ebayimg.com/01/i/01/e9/d0/07_1.JPG I had to pick up a different set of lug nuts because the stock ones wouldn't work with these rims. I got a set of acorn locking lug nuts 12mm x 1.5, but the locking nuts are too damn tall for the covers to fit on over them. So, I picked up an extra 4 normal lug nuts to replace the locking ones. But, as it turns out, all of the lug nuts are sliiiightly too tall. I think if I used a dremel to wear away some of the plastic on the inside of the lug nut cover, I could get them to fit. Or, should I just leave the covers off like in the pics, and keep the locking lug nuts on to make it harder for people to steal my rims? Suggestions please :D alphalanos 06-05-2004, 01:43 PM keep the locking ones on there without the covers. wouldnt u rather have rims with no covers than no rims at all?? ashah000 06-05-2004, 01:49 PM Keep looking I am sure there are some locking lugs that will fit. IMO it looks better with the covers. Otherwise they look sweet! joemathews 06-05-2004, 01:53 PM keep the locking ones on there without the covers. wouldnt u rather have rims with no covers than no rims at all?? .....no...... well, maybe yes :iceslolan RiceRocket18 06-05-2004, 05:40 PM I LOVE THEM!!. :).. great buy!. 18" would be even nicer. but great pick. they look hot. Chavez408 06-05-2004, 06:16 PM bueeeeetifulllll rims  im glad your enjoying your ride ;) Chavez408 06-05-2004, 06:17 PM PS: leave the covers on lol GTPSPEED 06-05-2004, 09:04 PM those are nice,i like them, but if you go 18's you will lose speed right joemathews 06-05-2004, 11:08 PM Thanks for the approval, guys! I'm going to try and keep the locking lugs on and find some way to get the covers on over them. If I can't, I suppose painting the very center of the axle red would look fairly good too. I would have preferred 18's as well, but I didn't have the money for lowering my car, so I figured 17's wouldn't give too much of a wheel gap. Plus, I got the wheels from a fellow DSMer in Clearwater with a 1g dsm, $500 for wheels and tires with 90% tread left. kjewer1 06-06-2004, 09:34 AM Looks like a whole different car ;) I wouldnt go 18s just because your short times will bite if you ever go to the track. Most poeple cant believe I get 1.5s on 17s, usually its much worse. 18s are real hard to get a good launch on. But thats just me, performance before looks :D duckydsp 06-06-2004, 01:25 PM Looking good Joe!:bigthumb: I don't have a cap around the center of my rims either so you won't be the only one. metalhedskater 06-06-2004, 09:40 PM nice rims man....are those 17s? they look like 17s....Im soo going to buy mine but i read here that 18s arent the best for eclipses....does anyone know why? RiceRocket18 06-06-2004, 11:01 PM re-read the post, it's been said. :) RADMANX 06-07-2004, 01:53 PM Those are some sick wheels, how much? FourG63 97GST 06-07-2004, 02:09 PM looks good :) where in FL are u? RiceRocket18 06-07-2004, 02:27 PM hey Four, is da your car? with the evo kit? FourG63 97GST 06-07-2004, 02:36 PM yea RiceRocket18 06-07-2004, 03:01 PM i like it. at least from this angle. damn LOL.. i just realized that sounds kinda gay! joemathews 06-07-2004, 06:58 PM Geez, sorry I haven't been on that much lately guys, but now that I'm home from school and have slowaaass dialup, it makes things hard. I live in St. Petersburg (right across the bay from Tampa), 4g63 97gst. How about you? I figured Miami or something because of South Florida DSM. I actually never intended to buy new rims for my car...I didn't like the swirlies, but I could tolerate them, and I don't have extremely deep pockets ;). But, I saw a guy from the local DSM club selling these on TampaRacing.com in the classifieds. I needed new tires, so I looked a little more carefully. They looked like awesome wheels, and he claimed the new tires had 95% tread left. When I went to check them out, they were it great condition, and the tires were also in great shape...2 were basically brand new, the ones he had on the front of his GS-T were a little more worn, but still had 75% tread left. Only thing was, the tires were 2 different kinds: Kuhmo Ecsta 711's and Falkens. Both were directional, and the same size and such, so I bought the combo. I paid $500 for everything...not bad considering the wheels retail for like $600 now, and 4 new tires would run me +/- $400. I was pleased with it :D And Kevin's right--I think my car looks like a different vehicle! joemathews 06-07-2004, 07:03 PM Someone on tuners suggested leaving the lug nut covers off...but I'd like to at least see what they look like on. There's no way in hell that the locking lug nuts will fit if I try and fit the covers on. If I replace the single locking nut on each wheel with a normal one, and I dremel away some of the plastic inside the wheel cover, I *think* they will fit. Or, I guess I could use those lug nuts without the top (that leave the bolt sticking out after you tighten them down all the way). Am I the only one who has had this problem? I know duckydsp has no covers on his, but is that by choice or by force lol? metalhedskater 06-07-2004, 10:27 PM that sux man...time to dithc the snailnet and get DSL....but dont worry i just got DSL....im slow tech. Anyway....yea i guess i should have read the whole thread....thanks! Can anyone back that claim up though? Is it a fact or just from experience? JRichter 06-07-2004, 10:34 PM Huge improvement on the rims. The light wheels give's you a slight edge in handling w/ less unsprung weight but would be more effective w/ a suspension kit. I went from 16's to 18's and definately lost a little in the acceleration department. Misundaztood 06-08-2004, 09:37 AM Nice. Kinda similiar to my Enkei Rs6s. I like. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
