Could too much water keep the engine from starting?

So it was hotter than its ever been in recent times here in N. Idaho, I wanted to check on my radiator so i peeked in and it looked a bit low.

Well i filled it up with water and tried to start the engine, and nothing happened.

The engine was just swapped not too long ago, less than 6 months ago for a crate engine. The reason i got rid of it was that it wouldnt stop leaking burning oil. well, this one doesnt appear to burn it, but all the same, it doesnt stay in the oil compartment either, I checked it today also and it was near empty.

in anycase the motor runs good when its going, its just not starting today, and im wondering if the heat could cause that, or maybe too much water in the overflow could cause it to not start?

No, too much water will not cause it to not start...That is unless your water is running right into the crankcase (big crack somewhere) then it will hydro lock.....

well i wait till it cooled down outside and it started right up.

Smells pretty badly of gas for a minute but then it runs fine..
