I have a 93 4.3L EFI Z code s10 blazer, it cut out the other day, it started right up and ran fine, later that day i started it and it sputtered and died. It will start and drive but have to caress the gas to keep it running, stalls when warms up, smokes now and leaves carbon dust on the ground out of the exhaust, fuel system and ignition system are perfectly fine but i cleaned all components anyway for the fuel system and changed out the entire ignition system anyway, no fix. Injectors are fine, seems like flooding of gas when push pedal, isn't responsive, want's to die if push on gas to quickly, any ideas? Please help

the sputtering could be ur tps, but as for the carbon dust on the ground, i have no idea

Sounds like your EGR valve acting up. It could be a broken valve, but very likely it is just a small piece of carbon buildup that came loose and wedged in the EGR. That will make it run awful rough, and want to die at idle. Your best bet is probably to have your codes read, but if you want to check out the EGR it's not that hard. Just order a new gasket ahead of time, or be real gentle with the one you've got.

Yep, it's dead now. I cleaned the EGR valve, it wasn't clogged, not even dirty, it had a little surface carbon on it but that all. It's been dumping gas into the throttle body, changed the entire exhaust system and it's still dead, it wasn't blocked. I checked the tps but it turns, i'm going to the salvage yard tomorrow, i'm grabbing everything i could, sensors, switches, selenoids, i'll update if i find out what it is, any other suggestions? It has spark still, plugs foul with gas pretty bad, has fuel, plenty, before it died it got less than 5 mpg literally.

Crank182 - have you read the diagnostic codes (code reader)? This will undoubtedly tell you that your chip (computer sensor) has gone bad and is supplying an overly rich fuel mixture. But to be sure, purchase the code reader (JC Whitney, etc) or take it into a dealer. They should read it for you and will tell you exactly what is wrong. Also, you are probably still under warranty. Check your original purchase papers for deductible which should be zero. Don't let the dealer charge you for reading the codes. Replacing the chip (under warranty) should fix you right up.

Yeah no codes show up on my truck with two different readers, i'm trying to find out how to do it manually just to make sure, i'm re building the throttle body again and testing all the sensors now, i'll post if i find out anything else.

Check your 3 inch hose connecting your fuel pump to your Sending Unit in the gas tank.I had the same problem and my hose had a hole in it.I thought it was getting to much gas,but it wasnt getting enough. So check that hose in your tank.I spent $500.00 in 2 months and didnt find it and took me 2 months to find the problem but its fixed it.And 2 months later after $500.00,it was a 3 inch hose in the tank.So check that, and write back to see if that helps.

Check the timing.

Could be badly retarded.

Cut your losses , Go to Jegs and get an Eddelbrock performer package . Thats what I am doing . I have been screwing with the same problem for 3 months now . Replaced the ignition and efi components . NO difference . Got the idle soleniod disconnected and unscrewed slightly to keep it idling for now until my kit comes in . For about $550 you can get 200 horses out of it and mechincal adjustments to set for yourself . Rob

going to a inefficient carb setup because of an driveability problem is a little extreme.

Don't get me wrong , If I had sequential FI I would do more to get it to run right . But no error codes , no vac leaks , all sensors check out by the srvice book. EGR working correct . Replaced IAC. TPS,fuel filter ,O2 ,MAP, all vac lines. All ignition parts including ESC, & EST modules . Still will not idle but runs like a 4.3 when you get the rpm up at highway speed . And I had a full size 4x4 with performer package on a 350 and still got 18 mpg. Not too inefficient there blazerlt . But I know we all have diiferent views . I am in a warmer climate range with a lower altitude , so I have different needs. reliability is what I need , and when the thing screws up when I am 12 miles from the nearest paved road deep in the mountain wilderness and it will not climb a mild hill because of its problems and strands me . I have to make every means neccessary to prevent it from happenning again . Hope that makes sense . Okay . Rob

Have you checked to make sure your ECM is properly operating? Could be a bad ECM, not burned out yet, but getting there. I have seen several like that at the shop, especially the late 80's early 90's trucks and cars.
