b18c1 or a b18c5zerosilver19 06-03-2004, 06:19 PM i'm debating on to get a 00 b18c5 motor that comes with all the goodies you know the factory p and p head, higher compression, 4.7final drive, 210 hp 134 tq, lsd tranny all for 4700. or the 00 b18c1 engine that only has 180hp and 124tq for 3200 then add the lsd for 300 and the 4.7 final drive for almost 500. so that totals up to almost 4k no including 280 shippin on th emotor and about a hundred on the final drive. the b18c5 is 4750 with shipping. I do plan on turbo charging the engine but not for a few months after i get it so i hope to get it around november after i get out of basic traning and school for the airfoce cuz i'll have 6k by then. and add a turbo prob after winters over. then take it in the sumemr and race it..my question is would it be better just to buy the type r engine with all that for 4750 or buy the gsr motor with all the type r tranny goodies for about 4300 and use the extra money for a new clutch? i know type r motors give out more hp on 10lbs of boost then a gsr and thats about what i wanted to run since a type r will have more hp then the gsr motor on 10psi tuned really well . madmaxEKhatchB18C5 06-03-2004, 07:51 PM hey...i went with the B18C5 (that's USDM #)..mine's JDM ITR, so it's just the B18C (same difference)...i'm doing it for an all-motor set-up... i think everyone here that doesn't tell you "USE THE SEARCH" feature, will tell you that you should use the B18C1 or the B18C JDM GSR for boost set-ups...lower compression=much easier to boost safely...good luck with yer ride...mc jameskersten 06-03-2004, 08:35 PM personnaly, i dont see point in buying C5 if you plan on FI. defeats the purpose of the high compression of the c5. i say buy the c1 and build it from there. and i think your numbers are off a bit. unless you are talking all JDM but a usdm c1 is 170hp. kicker1_solo 06-03-2004, 09:21 PM try B18b with the C1 head if you're gonna go turbo. Much cheaper and rumor has it that the ls block is better for boosting. zerosilver19 06-03-2004, 11:41 PM i do mean jdm, so what ur saying is get the b18c1 then add the final drive/lsd to the gsr tranny and use the money saved to buy a new clutch? i would never do a ls vtec engine just because i heard bad things about them how they only last like 20k miles and there isnt a shop around here that knows how to do that jameskersten 06-03-2004, 11:56 PM try B18b with the C1 head if you're gonna go turbo. Much cheaper and rumor has it that the ls block is better for boosting. i have to disagree on cheaper. you gotta think you are adding a head that is meant to rev to 8200rpm with a block meant to rev to 7000ish rpm. which means to build it right you must build the block better.therefore it can get expensive, atleast more expensive then to buy a c1 outright. i personally think if you buy b18b just turbo it, leave the vtec head off. the b18b is a great motor to turbo cuz of its low compression 9:1, where a c1 is 10:1 usdm. either way you look at it, to run a safe turbo set up on either motors, you are gonna have to spend some coin. jameskersten 06-03-2004, 11:57 PM i do mean jdm, so what ur saying is get the b18c1 then add the final drive/lsd to the gsr tranny and use the money saved to buy a new clutch? i would never do a ls vtec engine just because i heard bad things about them how they only last like 20k miles and there isnt a shop around here that knows how to do that from what i hear, the gsr trans is good for turbo, i hate it on my car (NA) since its real long gears. if you can find one buy a gsr trans with the optional lsd. and yeah upgrade the clutch while you are there. kicker1_solo 06-04-2004, 12:03 AM i have to disagree on cheaper. you gotta think you are adding a head that is meant to rev to 8200rpm with a block meant to rev to 7000ish rpm. which means to build it right you must build the block better.therefore it can get expensive, atleast more expensive then to buy a c1 outright. i personally think if you buy b18b just turbo it, leave the vtec head off. the b18b is a great motor to turbo cuz of its low compression 9:1, where a c1 is 10:1 usdm. either way you look at it, to run a safe turbo set up on either motors, you are gonna have to spend some coin. I do agree with you, it just sounded like he wanted vtec from his choices of motors. I believe the ls block is better for boost, that's why I suggested it. :) Ricochet 06-04-2004, 01:39 AM Get the C5 if you want a crate motor that you'll never really have to upgrade, and go n/a the rest of your car's life. Get the C1 if you want boost. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
