86 accord lxihondaccord86 01-21-2002, 11:05 AM My temp gauge does not seem to work. I had the thermostat replaced 2 years ago. How can I determine if the thermostat is bad again or just the temp. gauge? Thanks Dahmin8 01-21-2002, 11:49 PM If the themostat is bad, (meaning stuck) it can be in one of two positions. Opened or Closed. If it's open your car will probably run cooler. If it's closed it will probably run hotter. You should be able to figure it. What kind of reading is your temp gauge giving or not giving? Luke the man 10-14-2002, 07:10 PM i'd like too know where this thermostat is located and is it hard to replace by myself?? civicHBsi91 10-14-2002, 07:16 PM at the end of the lower radiator hose the end that goes to the engine, well thats where mine is anyway Luke the man 10-14-2002, 07:31 PM and I suppose it's an easy job to replace?? no special tricks? dutchboy 10-17-2002, 06:49 PM on the 3rd gen accords the thermostat is at the end of the top rad hose... follow the hose till it goes into the head...unbolt the two bolts holding the cover on...clean..flush out the system good...fit the new thermostat and seal in and tighten...replace the fluid with a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze after youve drained out all the water from the flush.. you can find out if the gauge is the problem by unplugging the 1 wire that goes to the sensor and grounding it out...then turn the key on for a second and the gauge should read HIGH...if not the gauge is not working proper. best thing is to get a manual for your car to see where things are GO to www.3geez.com to ask any 3rdgen related questions...theres alot more to be told there. and theres how tos on alot of stuff. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
