Brakes burning up!!!ShockJon 01-21-2002, 01:21 AM :( Just replaced the front pads on the front of my 93 accord... The rotor looked fine no grooves no nothing... I put the new pads on and now if you brake more 5secs they start to fade when you stop they stink like crazy if you spit on them they smoke like they are on fire!!!??? How do I fix this??? turn th e rotors?? and a better pad??? Please help!!! 94honda 01-21-2002, 08:58 AM What type of pads are on there? How do you brake, hard? ShockJon 01-21-2002, 08:39 PM The pads are those cheap crappy ones from Autozone... ALBANY.... The old pads were christalized and half worn thats why I replaced them... But I didn't do any thing to the rotors!!!! Thats where I think the problem is... The are burned or glazed what ever you call it... I do some back road driveing sometimes so some times I brake hard some times I don't but they do get used a lot!!! I think what I am going to do is get some slotted rotors and carbon metalic pads!!! That should stop it!!! But know My question is where is the best place to get slotted rotors?!?!?! Any help is greatly appriciated!!! :sun: hondaman-iac 01-21-2002, 10:18 PM i think your problem is in the caliper. i had the same problem. my pads were getting stuck to the disk because the caliper won't release them. i turned my rotors red hot few times and now they are all warped and shitty. never changed them since. I'm too lazy to get my ass in the cold and change them, but my pedal is fine and the brake is pretty good. Dahmin8 01-21-2002, 11:23 PM Rotors naturally get hot, but if you're seeing glowing metal you should get it checked. It may be the caliper pistons getting stuck closed and not releasing. Remove your calipers and checkout the action of your pistons. Be sure to place something like a piece of wood between them so that you don't pop the pistons completely out. You may just need to clean the surface around the pistons were they go in and out of the calipers at the seals. This should be a cheap fix. Let us know what happens.:) HONDA_99 01-22-2002, 09:02 AM i'd also check pins that hold caliper to mounting bracket, if there is enough grease and pins aren't rusted, this is in addition to what Dahmin8 & hondaman-iac said above. i'd also recommend to flush brake system, get good brake pads & new rotors. and do not buy slotted or cross drilled rotors, they're total waist of money. i have slotted rotors on my both cars and they're wrapped. i don't race, i don't brake hard (unless i have to) and they're wrapped. i'm going to replace them with OEM rotors. pins that i'm talking about are #16 & #17. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/catimgs/13SM40_J02.gif ShockJon 01-22-2002, 08:15 PM :D Thanx for the help guys!!! About the calipers?? Before I do the brake job every thing seem to be working fine not stick or getting hot they were just worn... And if it were the calipers would they both go out at the exact same time??? And act exactly the same??? That was the first thing my dad said was calipers... I guess I am going to but better pads and new rotors and see what that does.... If slotted isn't any good what kind of rotor do I need to buy for hard braking??? Help is always appriciated with me!!! :D HONDA_99 01-23-2002, 08:10 AM its very unlikely for both calipers to go bad at same time, but possible. do brake system inspection, it was said in previous posts. OEM rotors do a fine job, they very effective and reliable. you can pair them with high performance brake pads (AEM or AXXIS, and you'll see improvement in braking. visit www.hondaautomotiveparts.com for OEM parts & http://www.autocarparts.com/ for aftermarket high performence parts ShockJon 01-23-2002, 07:49 PM :D Thanx!!! I have got two OEM rotors in the mail from summit and a set of carbon metalic pads laying on the counter!!! That should do the trick!!! Thanx for the help guys!!!:D accord92 01-24-2002, 12:54 AM like HONDA_99 said check to make sure the slides (#16 and 17) are greased real good and arent sticking maxedout 01-24-2002, 04:27 AM Have your master brake cylinder checked out as well might be leaky causing the problem.take it to mechanic..to check out vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
