cutlass poweroldsdriver87 06-01-2004, 06:09 PM I would like to know what inexpensive ans expensive ways i could get more horsepower out of my 1987 3.8L ? frankg4 06-02-2004, 02:38 PM I have an '81 Cutlass Supreme "hand me down." 3.8 liter 2 bbl 6 cylinder. Specs say its rated at 110 hp at about 5,000 rpm. Probably close to same in your car. That sucks in a car this size. I have some ideas: Swap intake manifold with larger Olds/Buick 6 cyl 4 bbl engine and put in a 4 bbl along with installation of headers. I am going to a junkyard to see if i can get intake. I don't know if anyone has had any success with improved horsepower by installing headers. I am willing to try it if anybody out there has had success. Bypassing smog control equipment may also be an answer but is beyond me. Would be great if someone could provide some general guidance on smog control bypass. I also commented on this subject as a reply to someones question about putting headers on a six. oldsdriver87 06-02-2004, 04:48 PM its the same eingine, does anybody else have different suggestions?
