2001 Taurus, Oil Pan Gasket & AccelerationPSites 05-30-2004, 01:45 PM I bought a 2001 Taurus a little over a year ago. A couple months ago I started noticing that the acceleration was getting so bad that I had use my gas pedal on hills and that a burning oil smell was coming from my car. I took it to my dealership and they found that I blew my oil pan gasket, and that the oil has worked its way through the exhaust system. So they replaced the gasket and cleaned out the exhaust system. Now just a month later, I am finding that my acceleration is horrible and that the burning smell is still present off and on. So I take it back to the dealership and they find that the oil filter needs to be replaced, which of course should have been replaced when I got my oil changed. I am pretty sure the smell has gone away but the acceleration is still lacking. Does anybody had this problem? Or does anyone know if this could indicate a larger problem? irish30 05-31-2004, 10:35 AM Not totally clear as to why if your oil pan gasket was leaking, it got into your exhaust system. And how is it that you clean an exhaust system. I have never heard of such a service. It sound like a real money maker. :angryfire . If you had foreign material like oil going into your exhaust system there is a chance that it could have contaminated your convertors. If they got plugged up this would give an acceleration problem. :sunglasse vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
