If I drop the pan on the transmission, change the filter, about how many qts of fluid do I need to top it back up?

5-6 Qts. Make sure that you buy Mercon V fluid. That is the only fluid the trans should have. When filling it make sure that the car is running in park. Put in 3 qrts and run it, with your foot on the brake put the trans through the gears. P all the way to 1 stopping for a sec. in each gear, then back up again to P, then check the fluid and add as you need to. Doing this sends fuild to all areas in the valve body and clutches. :sunglasse
