my abs light on my 2001 grand prix

I just recently hit a small pothole in the streets of lawrence, kansas. After that my abs light and trac control light turns on with the slight bump in the road. Sometimes I can go a couple of days with seeing the light and then sometimes I can just go into drive and the light turns on. Is this something that i can fix on my own or do i have to take it to a dealership.

Someone please help me. Those lights annoy me. Anyone can contact me at my email. lemah@lmh.org

I would appreciate any kind of assistance.

Sounds to me like you have a loose wire on a wheel speed sensor. This sensor performs duties for both ABS and traction control. Possibly a loose wire or a faulty sensor.

Hmmm. This is interesting since my 2001 Grand Prix GTP just started doing the same thing only without having hit a pot hole.

The abs and the tcs off lights both come on. If I shut the engine off and restart they will usually go off but not always. In those cases where they don't go off is seems like if I restart the car with my foot on the brake they don't come back on.

I haven't got a clue as to how to fix this but it's driving me nuts. Does this sound like the same sort of a loose connection problem? Is it something I can fix myself?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Its typically a wheel sensor or wiring issue causing the problem. You can check the wheel sensor connectors at each hub front and back. Make sure the electrical contacts are clean and tight. Also inspect the wiring tied down to the lower control arm for cut or frayed wires or anything obvious.

I had the same problem with my car, but i noticed it when i test drove the car, so the dealer fixed it. In my case, they had to replace the bearings. Dunno if thats what yours is, but just an idea.

i have a 1996 that the abs light is on all the times. i've been told by more than 1 garage that i have a broken wire on the front passenger sensor. the part is 30 bucks but i don't know where it is on the wheel or what it looks like or how hard it will be to fix.
