catalytic converter cause loss of power if clogged? How to remove it? How do you check for vaccum leaks?

a cat converter will destroy the power in your engine if it's clogged. Check and make sure none of your vacuum lines are cracked.

Visually inspect all the vacuum hoses. Replace any that cracked, don't seem to fit tight, are extra hard, etc. If in doubt, replace it - vacuum hoses are cheap enough. A vacuum leak can mess up your performance in a number of ways.

broke down on I-5 had used injector put in and fuel pump at a Latino owned repair shack. Think the 2 hoses going into EGR seem loose. Stopped to get gas, car sat 15 minutes fueled up then broke down a few miles away. Something clogged the fuel filter I thought maybe it was sabotage by someone putting something in my gas tank. But then again it may have been time for a new pump. Tried spraying carb cleaner didn't work. Tell me again where I spray, engine running, will idle change or stop?

With your key in the on postition, but motor not running, wiggle the wires around your under-hood fuse box. You may have a short causing your fuel pump relay to shut off. If you wiggle the wires, and you hear one of the relays start clicking, that's your problem. Very common for Geo's.
