New Beetle or old? Swoxy 01-18-2002, 04:25 PM
Which VW Beetle do you prefer? These two both have custom paint jobs, but the poll is on the standard cars. I meant to post a different picture. My appologies! SuPrBuGmAn 08-12-2002, 11:45 AM Old, just not the old one pictured  YellowMaranello 09-20-2002, 08:36 PM Old. The new beetles aren't even beetles IMO. They should have kept the engine in the back. Misundaztood 01-03-2003, 01:22 AM /\/\/\ Yes, they should've left the engine in the rear. Otherwise I'd go with a New Beetle. There's some company, for the life of me I can't think of the name, that will swap a V6 out of a Jetta into the New Beetle. They tested it & got a 4.7 0-60 time. I'll go look through my old car mags & post back later.... crayzayjay 02-02-2003, 01:24 PM Old beetle :) flylwsi 02-13-2003, 12:26 PM i'm going old for this one... you could easily swap a vr6 or whatever into the beetle, b/c it's the same platform as a golf/jetta... so it'll bolt in. i'd go with an old beetle and a few porsche parts stuffed inside with a turbo... flat black please... Drfthis 02-26-2003, 08:11 PM old Iwanna3000GT 02-27-2003, 11:27 AM the old beetles are classic, they're...funky (for lack of a better word), with the engine in the back and everything :apoke: Ace$nyper 03-25-2003, 06:14 PM old they are a blast to drive cheap to restore easy to work on and they can fit porshe motors in them:devil: BUGMAN II 04-10-2003, 11:21 PM the real beetle kaoru-tochiro 04-11-2003, 08:54 AM Which old one, bacause I like the old, old ones best! with the split rear winda. That new one is just too cutsey poo. and they put the damn engine in the wrong place. crayzayjay 04-14-2003, 12:39 PM New Beetle is a POS. If they wanted to resurrect the car properly at least they would have made it good to drive, like BMW did with the Mini. Result? Beetle was a fashion accessory that got old very very quickly. The new Mini is also a fashionable car but one that drives better than many so-called sports cars. Take heed, Volkswagen. It's time to up your game Axman 06-11-2003, 09:05 AM The classics! http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/113973bug.JPG Fritz The Cat 06-11-2003, 08:41 PM My favorite was my old 65 Varient S. God, I miss that car. harrybeaver 07-08-2003, 10:24 PM I love my beetle, its only broke down 4 times in the past 2 weeks. The only bad thing is that someone stole my engine but for some reason it still drove home. I popped the hood and there was no engine. I still cant think of why it still runs with out an engine. I guessing its because of the battery but it still eats gas. 23toyota23 08-17-2003, 03:56 PM they're both pos. the new one especially is crap. 2strokebloke 08-20-2003, 09:07 PM The old beetle was fun car. It may have been hopelessly outdated even long before sales ended in the united states - but it had a hard to describe charm about it. I guess you could say that it had character, it had a soul. It's almost the way a car should be (but not quite) Function before form - without the form part  The "New beetle" on the otherhand... hmmmmm. Quite curious about that car. The two most frequently asked questions about New Beetle before it came out were: 1: is the engine in the back? 2: is it air-cooled? O.K. it's understandable that the thing isn't air-cooled with emissions laws being as strict as they are - but really it needed to be rear engined, VW screwed up big time in that respect. After all, looks aside - the most important thing to would-be owners was if the car was rear engined like the original. vw_bug_owner 08-27-2003, 04:50 PM old beelte for sure they are a classic. i think they should have tried to make the new beetles air cooled, i think that would have made it sell better. 56pickup502 09-19-2003, 11:00 PM Man I love old beetles.. the new one's aren't even beetles.. they're not air cooled and the engine isn't in the rear.. they don't sound a damn thing like the old beetles.. the real beetles... and they should've stuck with the old style.. plus.. i love my old 72 super beetle convertible.. bobby28384 09-21-2003, 09:10 AM I prefer the old Beetle. I got a new one because it was "safer" and more reliable. Not! The engine overheated and the trunk wouldn't pop within the first 3 weeks of my purchase. The only good thing is that I got a GLX (turbonium) and it was quick. drewbabe4 10-02-2003, 09:17 PM I am so Excited, I am going to pick up my new old beetle. 1968 VW Beetle Convertible!!!! Check out my site with the pics on it. http://hometown.aol.com/drewbabe4/myhomepage/profile.html crayzayjay 10-05-2003, 06:58 AM Nice car, love old beetles :) Deuce2 11-10-2003, 11:46 PM i personally have a 69 beetle. right now it is in project statis. my goal is to get a 911 turbo motor into the back of it and have 3 racing seats in it. right now it is sitting at my friends shop with now interior, no dash, no engine. right now it is just basically just a shell with wheels and a suspension.
