Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Evo Vii probably won't make it this fall. We'll probably end up with the Evo VIII! There will be minor changes to the exterior, including the return of the massive front foglights. I don't remember the performance changes however, but it should be faster in keeping with Evo tradition.:D

Where did you get that info, even if it doesn't make it till Febuary of 2003, they were still saying it was gonna be the EVO VII.
I want to read the article, so would you post the link or wherever you got this info from?

"Better VIII than never"
Mitsubishi confirms its Lancer Evolution will be sold in America, starting in January of 2003. While the car at the LA show was an Evo VII, next year's production car could be an Evo VIII, given the development time between now and then. Mitsubishi says to expect "more than 250 rabid horses" from the turbocharged 2.o-liter four, four wheel drive, Brembo brakes and a sticker price below $30,000.

Even if he is lieing what else matters? It still comes out around the expected time.....so what if they bring back the kick ass aggressive styling and improve a few things.....IMO I doubt it....I say they are sending the VII but if they are sending an 8.....all i can say is.....THANK YOU GOD

I'm saying...the high 14 that your running can't be 14 seconds...i'm saying that you can't run 14's in your prelude that doesn't have any performance mods. i think...your about low 16's to MAYBE mid 15's.

Don't know what to think. The seven is still new, but Mitsubishi has cranked out 2 generations of lancers before and in back-to-back seasons.
The deffense is gonna be tough, looks like the offence might have to pull a dream play, and change their starting line-up.
...Ok, I thought, and realized, this...
The world has gone EVO crazy, and someone has obviously took the fact that the EVO rules a little bit to far. They can't wait to get a VII so there thinking, there thinking, playing playstation, and dreamin about the new EVO VIII, if they plan on making one, and evidentally, you who know who you are, are dreaming, back to reality.
The EVO VII is barely cutting the grid as it is, and they even had to shave a few things, renegotiate a few things, even to get over here.
So if Mitsu, is in fact making the EVO VIII, then what do you think will happen.
2 Scenarios:
They are making the EVO VIII a car that will only be produced in and for the US, stripped, whipped, and ferry dipped.
-or-
They are making the EVO VIII an ACME special for driving on the moon.
As you can see, either way, Mitsu will only be generating the car, at this moment for those reasons, and both of those reasons, have a controlled market, that will not yield high results at this time.
If they do come out with the EVO VIII, they would make it like every other EVO, one that us in the U.S. dream about, and won't be able to see for a few years. They have spent a lot of time on the EVO VII to get it this far! they would lose a LOT of money scrapping that idea, and building a new evo in 10 months, to have it ready for export.
Think outside the box.
It's all about the Benny's.

raceghost,

the world hasn't gone evo crazy. we're all just living in our own little delusional worlds where we go to bed at night and dream about driving our new US spec Evo VII's (VIII's, whatever, it's an Evo, who gives a fuck what kind) down deserted twisty roads. then every morning we have to wake up and look out the window at a car that's not an Evo. i usually cry. i cry a lot anymore. damn time, DAMN TIME. WHY ISN'T IT JANUARY, 2003?!?!? i think i'm going to go cry some more, good night.

i doubt either topic on this page is true, there is no EVO VIII coming out and i doubt that prelude runs 14's. BS both ways, if not, cool and congradulations.

EVO crazy? i think not my friend, otherwise the US would have had the EVO along time ago. No dream plays or power passes or whatever your talking about raceghost, there is no EVO VIII. How do I know, cause its too far fetched to be true. sorry raceghost

hahaha... I think now about what you said moldy or whatever you are, im gonna go cry. Jeese you just brought up painfull emotions of not seeing that EVO in my driveway.

I don't know whether to classify this as an 8 or 7-1/2, most likely the latter, but the next model will be called GT-A and come with an INVECS-II transmission. It's not a myth, I've already seen the brochure from Mitsu on this. In fact if you come to Singapore you can already start placing your orders for it; slated to ship end of next month.

whys it named GT-A?
why the choice of INVECS-II transmission?

I honestly think pushing out an EVO VIII is pointless unless sales figures are low.. If there going to push a Evo VIII with minor changes, whats the Point? Just make a Evo 7.5.

Hi all...

I`m a fellow carmaniac (especially evomaniac) from Athens Greece.
I`ve just registered as a new member and i hope that i`ll add something
to your forum conversations...I`m currently driving a Peugeot 106 16v rallye. The car wears a full 4-throttle body kit ,with Kent 272 degrees cams, new reprogrammable Haltec emu, full Magnex exhaust kit, and many other engine mods that i cant post because of my poor english.:)
Other than that, the suspension is totally replaced by a Bilstein GroupN with Proflex springs (4cm lowering, 300 libs) and a bigger (24) torsion bar...I also upgraded the differential to LSD ( Limited Slip Differential )...The car now, produces about 195hp at shaft (122hp was from factory) at 8.700rpm.
My other mods are:

Speedline Rally-7 16s alloys.
Yokohama A539 tyres.
Momo streetracer bucket seats.
Momo competition wheel.
Short shift gear changer.
Twin Morette headlambs.
Tinted windows.
Tinted rear clusters.
Rear cluster eyebrows.
106 maxi, rear spoiler.
modified bonnet, impreza WRC look.

I think thats all...:) :)

I`m currently thinking of upgrade the looks of the car, by putting a 106 Maxi full bodykit...

Beside my love for the little 106, i have a BIG love for the mitsubishi EVO (especially from iv and beyond)...I`ve always dreamed of being (someday) the Lucky owner of an Evo. I really really liked the Evo Vi and i was a little disapointed when i first saw the Evo Vii. The Vii hasnt the GREAT looks of the awesome Vi, but they say that its far better from the Vi ,suspension, differential, gearbox, performance and driving setup wise. I dont know if this is for real cause i havent drived it yet. I`ve drived the V and Vi thought (the Vi was a Tommi Makkinen edition), and one thing i can say only. This car can swallow ANY curve, for breakfast...
Simply awesome. Driving experience from outer space. Gimme an Evo and a Lamborghini diablo sv, and i would choose the Evo without any second thoughts...As for the Evo Viii you`re talking about, i havent heard anything yet either. But i think that its a little weird for Mitsubishi to replace the current Vii (which is ``just`` released) with the Viii, within 2003`. I`ll bet my money that we wont see another Evo before late 2004...

Sorry people for the huge post...
I`ll keep in touch...

Passing smog was a pain. Hp will be around 250-260 but its de-tuned meaning you can boost it back up to 280-290 without spending a dime. As far as VIII I don't know if its true but it can be. Mitsubishi cranks them out every other year sometimes and then sometimes 2 Evo's in 2 succesive years. Sales numbers have nothing to do with it. Sometimes they make major improvements and then call it VIII vs VII because of the new rally year. Anyhow an EVO is coming with a MSRP of under $30k.... anybody interested? Email me if you live in California next year and I will get you first on my list. Maybe one of you will be interested in my demo :bandit:

Comparing to YOUR MONSTER fortyoz2eric, my car is not so awesome..:) :) Its not sooo fast (0-60 6,1 sec, max speed 235kmph or 140mph) but its really an amateur racing car. Perfect for curvy roads...

Driving it here on a race track, during a track day with a GREEK CARMANIACS club...At that time, the car was fully modified engine wise. But not yet, finished from exterior side...You can see thought the real black tinted windows...:)

Are all Usa Evo models 250hp? Why`s that? Here in Greece, Mitsubishi imports Evo vii Rs, 280hp, Evo vii Rs2 280hp, Evo vii extreme 356hp, Evo vii Warrender 400_stealth 390hp, and Gsr1,Gsr2 models...There`s also available the older Evo Vi Tommi Makkinen edition 330hp...

The first step is bringing them onto U.S. soil. The rest is all gravy. Like I said the engines are de-tuned. Meaning simple no cost mods should bump hp back up to 280-290 range. As far as other models down the pipeline you will have to ask the actual factory, I just sell the things.

I can't see the EVO VII that will be sold in the states to be close to the one in Japan. It cost me $30000 in Japan and it will cost me another $4000-$5000 to import to the states. So imagine what the cost will be after shipping charges and the cost for Mitsu to make the changes at the factories to make them with the steering wheel for right side driving.

The Evo VIII is coming out in the US. The Evo VII will most likely be here as well. What Mitsubishi is doing is setting a goal of selling 10,000 Evo VII's then releasings the VIII's. This should all happen around January 2003. Who the hell cares if it's a VII or an VIII. The US has never had an Evo and played a trick on everyone last year when they came out with the regular Lancer which runs under 100 hp (pathetic). Many thought that there would be and Evo model but were sadly mistaken. So be happy that an Evo is coming no matter what model it is. :ylsuper :ylsuper :ylsuper

somehow I don't believe you... The lancer we have now is 120 hp (not much more than the sub-100 you quoted, but still) and I highly doubt Mistsu will say 'here's the Evo VII you all wanted, and we're going to give you a new generation just a few months after the much-anticipated release of that car, just to piss you off!'. I have read all of you getting quite fanatic about an Evo 8
It's farther off than you think, but in the mean while you will be very , very, pleased with the VII. Comming to a dealer near you including me Jan of 03. And yes little dagger it will be under $30,000!

The Evo 8 will not be here in 04- but you may see an RS model instead. Not that it matters the tricked out version EVO 260 hp comes first, watch the european and Jap versions they will continue to be 1 MY ahead of the imported US market.

I dont know, I kind of see the possibility of the evo 8 coming in Jan. I mean for hte last few model years, mitsu has been bringing a new evo every january. and They wouldnt bring the evo 7 to us, when they knew they could have made sales. They now say it will be realeased in Jan here. and if they follow their trend, the evo 8 will be coming in Jan. And why would they put the last year model out to the U.S. when a new model just came out. then we would all be whining about getting the new model. so why not jsut bring it here. I dont know, its late, im going to go to bed. Its possible. probably not, just a "possible analogy" any see it?

Not quite.. The Japs are allways 1 year ahead of us. The LHD RS & RS2 models have officially arrived 2 or 3 weeks ago. Same was with the EVO V (only LHD as RS model) and the EVO VI.
Japan's carmanufacturers will ALLWAYS serve their domestic market first.

BTW except for the LHD the spec of the official Euro car is the same as the Japanese car. Even the warningstickers are in Japanese.
