You would want to prep and paint them just like the finish on your car. There are specific paints made just for wheels that most better auto paint stores will have on hand. Most paint suppliers would be more than willing to talk you through the process.

Here's what you need. Aluminum has trouble grabbing on to paint, so here's what I suggest. Strip them down to bare aluminum either chemically or by blasting. Then wash them with a brush and something like Simple Green. Sometimes blasting is enough, but if the blast media has been recycled it may have left and oily residue. If its been stripped chemically you need to wash all the chemicals off. Buy some aluminum etching compound. Its available at some parts stores, but you can get it from body shops or Restomotive Labratories (do an internet search). Its a simple step where you spray this orange-colored water on the aluminum and leave it there for a while. Its as easy as rinsing it off and then painting just like it was steel. That little orange etching step is the only difference, but that's what the key is. The way to make it most effective is by making sure the aluminum is squeaky clean. You'll be able to tell because if its not, the orange stuff will bead up a little. If it sheets out like a soapy car, you're in business. If it beads up like a waxed car, go back and scrub with simple green again.
