I have a '91 metro conv. with a '96 1.0 engine. The car is a creampuff, excepting that I have run into a starting issues. After the engine as run for a while and has built up some heat, I cannot restart it until the engine cools off. I have to open the hood, and after about 10-15 minutes, it will turn over on the first crank. What can be causing this?

Does it have a '91 or '96 ECM, and were the engine sensors and emissions stuff changed to match the ECM?

It could be running rich, and flooding out when you try to start it hot. Crank the engine when it's hot. And after a few seconds, remove a spark plug and see if it's wet.

is it even turning over when its hot??? if not check your starters sylnoid to check it get it hot shut it off and try to start it up if it doesnt take a small hammer and tap the starter if it turns over after a few raps i would get the starter tested and replace it if it needs it

I have a suspicion that it has something to do with the started or solonoid also. I noticed a few days ago that when I start the car cold, it turns over immediately, but I also hear that awful noise when a starter is about to "kick the bucket"
