Hey Guys, I know this question has been around for awhile, but seriously looking into a 97-98 GTP becuase it seems to be a good car for the money. (Were talking about a sub 8K budget here). My qestion is that with 1000 bucks for mods whats the most amount of power i can gain, and how would i go about doing that. For example, what types of intakes or exhausts or pulleys or rockers or whatever should i get ,and what measures do i need to take to prevent any possible damage to the engine?

3.4 modular pulley system -150.00
DHP pcm -215.00
Downpipe -180.00
CAI -200.00
Autolite 104's -006.00
180 tstat -010.00

thats a start

rockers - 500.00
cam installed -1100.00 - 1300.00

I'd also invest in a scan tool of some sort.

Do i really need a CAI or would a FWI work jsut the same? Also how much of a time drop on a 0-60 and a q-mile time are you lookin at with 1k in mods over stock?

FWI or CAI it doesnt matter.

I'd say w/ the right combo 13.7 or higher??

ive heard of people installing 1.9 rockers before installing a computer upgrade, and not installing the 180 temp at all. Also, whats the difference between a full cat back system like borla or SLP and jsut a downpipe and u-bend removal besides price . Does any certain order of adding mods have adverse effects on the engine? (I know I ask alot of questions) To put it simply, id like to find the combo making the fastest car for the lowest price.......which is what probably everyone is trying to do. Any advice?

Get the scanner first...if your car is running lean, even a CAI can hurt your car. KR is a big issue and even stock GTPs can have a few degrees of KR. Installing a smaller pulley on a motor already getting KR with the stock pulley is asking for a broken piston...or at the least damaged plugs.

Scan the car...it will help you to decide what to mod first. Maybe you will only get KR after the engine reaches XXX degress...then a colder thermostat should be your first mod. Maybe KR only at IAT over XXX degress...then maybe a CAI or FWI. KR all the time, then opening up the exhaust should be priority 1. You get the idea.

first, unless youre pretty good wit a wrench urself, you should take your car to a mechanic and ask him wat kind of shape your engine is in.

30hp prolly aint gonna melt a piston heads man. , go fer the pulley, and mabe a new supercharger belt along with dat. beyond that, id put a CAI and a 160 or 180 degree thermostat ( On 2000-current vehicles, your car's PCM may have trouble with the 160-degree thermostat) in it. If you want to really open up your exhaust, you could get headers, a catback exhaust, and a high flow cat, but that wuold cost you around 1.5gs, and thts just fer parts. Most performance chips are tuned for highly modified cars (catback exhause, headers, cai, and 3.4 - 3.25" pulleys, at least) so unless youre goin all out, i wouldnt worry about putting a reprogrammed PCM in ur car. If youre going to be doing a lot to your car, you should def install a trans cooler kit (~200 bucks) to protect your trans from over heating, especially if youre going to install new CAM or a transmission shift kit.

oh yeah i almost forgot. dont get NOS. ever. never never never never never ge NOS. you might as well take a sledge hammer to youre tranny.
