More Power99AccordVTEC V6 05-10-2004, 12:21 PM Newbie here. I have a 1999 Accord V6 VTEC. AT. I have been considering a VTEC Controller. My car has 200 HP now, how much do you think i can get with a controller? I con't race too much, i just want to be able to school some of the punks around here who think that H/I/E will make their car something special. I've got limited funds, and i don't want to put too much into the car because i know it's going to my bro when i go to college. If you have any other suggestions or have a VTEC Controller in a similar car please let me know. Also i'll be at the Circut this Friday if anyone lives near York Pa. HONDA_99 05-10-2004, 05:22 PM VTEC controller will make you wallet skinner and nothing else. this modification is last on list. 99AccordVTEC V6 05-12-2004, 09:02 AM What would you recommend to give me a few more horsepower? I still like the idea of being able to adjust the engagement point for the VTEC. Setting it low, around 2000 would really help me off the line. I have a friend with a controller he doesn't need, and he's willing to sell it and install it. How involved is the installation? Thanks. HONDA_99 05-12-2004, 08:27 PM right now ECU is pretty much at optimal setings, so installing Air/Fuel controler will do very little. you could lean up mixture (honda runs their cars rich), but narrowband oxygen sensor won't let do it accuratly. headers, exhaust, intake, camshafts and pulleys can put you in territory where with A/F and VTEC controller you can see up to 190whp. lowering VTEC engagement will hurt performance, you will loose a lot of torque. HONDA_99 05-12-2004, 08:29 PM i got plug-n-play harness for my VAFC, so it was plug-n-play. 99AccordVTEC V6 05-13-2004, 09:20 AM The car already has 200 Hp stock and i'm not sure how much money i can put into it right now, i have a limited budget. I'm going to the circut this friday, it's a place where local people race a little, and i'm going to see how i do. I've been there before, but only raced two or three people, and they weren't even a challenge. I'm not planning on doing this, but does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to put s 6-speed into this car? it still has the factory 4-speed automatic, which is fine i guess, but the car would be so much faster if i put in a 6-speed manual. I don't have the funds, and will not for quite some time, but i can still think about it. HONDA_99 05-13-2004, 12:45 PM stock 200hp is at crank shaft (chp) and its initial power, but useable power is one that at wheels (whp). whp will be lower then chp due to loses in drive train, and it vary from drive train to drive train. front wheel drive cars with automatic transmission usualy have 20-25% drive train loss. 200chp x 0.8(20%) = 160whp. manual transmission losses are much less and usauly about 15-18%. so if you had manual tranny inyour car you could have 170whp. cost of maunal tranny swap is somewhere between $3K & $4K vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
