my 95 pathfinder has 2 problems. Please help MPH/TACHmustangmike1 05-10-2004, 10:39 AM My tach only works untill it hits 2000 rpm and than falls to 0. And my speedometer only works tell it hits 30mph and than it falls to 0 also. But the milage counter works. Any ideas? Could it be the speed sensor? What what about the tach only going up to 2000 rpm than falling? RatioCynic 05-13-2004, 01:57 AM The speed sensor is a good place to start. Remove the VSS from the transmission. Turn the sensor's pinion quickly and measure the voltage at the connector wire. Should be about 0.5V AC. RC rebeitler 05-27-2004, 03:54 PM Ratio: What could cause a short in the speed sensor? My 2000 PFinder blows one every 4 months or so. I've noticed many other people in this forum with similar problems, I'm thinking this is a common problem... RatioCynic 05-28-2004, 09:19 AM rebeitler, Are you referring to the VSS thats built into the speedometer assembly [in your dash] or the VSS on your autom. transmission? The one in your dash is an auxillary unit to the revolution sensor on the A/T. Assuming you have an A/T. 2WD or 4WD? Anytime there is a repetitive failure, I would first check the electrical system. Work backwards from the VSS which in this case is the wiring harness [look for possible shorts, clean all connections, spray connections with contact cleaner, inspect and test all relays]. PM me and I can provide you with a trouble diagnostic for the VSS and a wiring diagram. RC rebeitler 05-29-2004, 01:00 AM Ratio: The speed sensor I'm talking about is located at the tranny. I didn't even know there was one anywhere else. I do know, however, when I replace the one at the tranny the problem is fixed for a few months or so. I will trace the wiring in an attempt to find the problem; I just wondered if this was a recurrent problem with Pathfinders. I've owned 4 Pathfinders and 5 pickups and never had this problem before... funnyfrog25 03-17-2009, 05:27 PM The tach signal does not come from a speed sensor so I don't see that affecting your tach. Maybe cold solder joints or Tachometer resistor. Talk to the dealer for the resistor. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
