I need to know if anybody has expierienced a simular problem such as mine. I need to know where to direct most of my attention at. The answer is probably simple but finding out what it is is the part that I am having problems with. My caddy cut off one day needing a tow home and now it works fine in the driveway. I dont want to take it out because i have a feeling that it might quit again since it already did once. There's definitely a problem because it needed a tow. Even though it's not cutting off now. Any ideas? Anybody? This morning it ran for 45 mins without cutting off in my driveway. I know it might not be the same as driving around town but I didn't need a tow. lol. please help me somebody.

There are lots of possibilities as to what went wrong but pinpointing to the right problem is difficult. When the vehicle stalled, you should have checked to see what you were missing, was it spark and/or fuel? Knowing which one was missing would have led you to the right direction of possible problem. Another thing that may give you a clue is if you can get into the vehicle computor and pull out the code.
Good Luck.

thanks for the advice. It since has happened again and i have found the culprit to be spark. I'm thinking coil but I will keep you all posted.

I owned a 1986 Sedan DeVille that would stall when it was in park or in reverse, but never in drive. I would get stuck at places all the time. It would then start 4-6 hours later and run fine for several days, until it happened again. After replacing several parts and not having any success, I consulted a mechanic friend of mine. He insantly said it was the fuel pump. I asked him why it would start again a few hours later and he replied that some switch had to reset for it to start again. My dad (an excellent mechanic, I might add) helped me replace the fuel pump and it ran fine after that (until the coolant system blew up like a year later). If this describes your problem, replace the fuel pump.

thanks jride but that is not quite what mine is doing, but close. As of right now my ride is not starting up and I hear the fuel pump running when I first cut the car on. Second I have fuel pressure but I do not have any spark at the end of the spark plug wire.
My guess right off the top of my head is coil, module, or pick up coil just to name a few. I will test both coils and see what readings I get. If they check out ok then maybe the module would be up next.
If anyone has their own opinion please let me hear it. Nothing could hurt at this point. Thanks again.

Yeah. Check the ignition control module or the ignition coil under the distributor cap. both are inexpensive and easy to replace. Good Luck.

I know this may sound too obvious, but how old are the plug wires? Did you check your power at the coil or at the plug end? Are they factory replacement or better? I gave my Bronco a tune-up, and the next spring it would die on me in humid conditions, or not fire at all. I checked the spark and got nothing. Sick as it sounds, it turned out to be as simple as the plug wires, which were only a year old!!!! (No jokes about Broncos here, becasue I hate that thing) Last time I buy cheap plug wires...

Both of you guys have a point. I had the plug wires changed about two months ago. OEM parts. I definitely feel that it is in the coil or module as was stated. Just from the symptoms alone. The car gave no warning, it was running tight and then all of a sudden STALL! Wires seem like there would be some sort of noticeability in performance before it would quit. That's just my opinion. Anyways I will keep you guys posted on the issue. Until next time, later.. Feel free to chat about other issues as well

well I finally fixed the problem and it was the module. That pesky GM module was time for replacing. There you have for all of you that assisted me in this issue. Thanks to all.
