Is 250-300 a good price for a timing belt change? Im trying to get that done to take away a little from my problem with my car.Still doest seem like it wants to go anywhere from a stopped position, and the tach doesnt drop down liked it used to.Who knows whats wrong with it...taking it back and forth is getting pretty old.

is yer timing belt even worn or slipping??....did you check back on the response i gave to your previous post....all of the things i suggested in there will address sliggish starts and loss of power.....

i would suggest not trying to do some expensive repair that may have nothing to do with your problems....

if others on here have ideas of why she might be losing power....speak up.....b4 she goes and slaps down 300 for a potentially useless repair.....mc

If you're having problems with power loss, the timing belt is not causing it... the timing belt has nothing to do with the engine being sluggish or not.

From the way you describe your problem in your other post it does sound like an intake manifold problem, or fuel delivery problem. Instead of having the timing belt done, have your injectors tested... also, have you had the fuel filter replaced yet? a clogged fuel filter can cause major losses in power in lower RPM ranges.

no ive never changed the fuel filter. When I first took it to the mechanic he cleaned the intake twice and said it was pretty dirty, then we also replaced the filter which did help some because the car seemed to jump a little in acceleration....the guy said it would be a good idea to do the timing belt before it does end up snapping because my car has 89,000 miles and its never been changed.Hes suppose to hook it up to a computer again tuesday to see if any codes come up... I keep thinking its got something to do with the fuel system, along those lines...but hes pretty sure of it being the intake....

I've got a 98 civic with about 103,000 miles on it and my timing belt is fine from my visual inspections. I'd be willing to bet the piston rings or something will wear out before my timing belt does. I believe the suggested milage for replacing the belt is around 90,000, but whatever.. thats probably just Honda trying to make a buck or something. I drive my car pretty hard most of the time and it's still pulling as strong and as smooth as can be expected.

You dont clean out a fuel filter. Thats like saying "How much does a mechanic charge to clean my oil filter?" Its a replaceable thing, not cleanable. It cost me about 12 bucks for the filter and changed it myself. its really easy. Unscrew 2 nuts..... and a clamp I think. Its easy. Be mindful that if your fuel filter was never changed, the bolts will be VERY tight! REPLACE IT FAST. I dont think this will happen to a honda but I failed to ever replace my fuel filter on my explorer, the fuel lines exploded (tore open) and lost allll of my gas on a long road trip due to a clogged filter. Also, ever since that happened, my fuel guage is messed up and ALWAYS reads full tank, so now it is impossible to tell where my car's fuel level is at without counting the miles. To repair the guage, I need a new fuel sending unit (well.... the sensor that tells how much gas is in the tank with the float thingy) and total will cost me over $250. Later this week I am going to fix it myself and drop the tank but THE UNIT ALONE is $129. Don't wait! Don't regret!
