I have a 2000 Avalon XLS with 95K miles. 90% highway driving. Have replaced front rotors and pads 3 times in the last 20K miles. Brand new rotors are getting warped that "shudder" the steering wheel when braking hard from 50MPh to about 35mph. Brake repair shop checked out the calipers, seem to be fine. Anyone else expriencing such problems ? any ideas what could be causing such a problem ?

Thx ..

I'd suspect the installer. Uncalibrated air ratchet and improper tightening sequence and improper torque.

I originally thought that o tbe the case ..... followed instructions completely and bought a torque wrench and tightened to specifications.

Any other ideas ? like calipers ? wheel bearings ? other front end issues ? Wheels are well balanced .. very smooth ride!

If you installed them yourself then are they OEM rotors? Did you compare disk thickness with the standard thickness? Did you measure disk runout and bearing play and adjust them where necessary? You can just put them on and be close and lucky or unlucky, but to do it right you must do the adjustments.

What he said, but to add my .2 DO NOT!!! I REPEAT DO NOT USE OEM Rotors and pads :nono: !!!!! Swhich to an aftermarket set-up and that should eliminate your problem along with taking her to another shop to have them put on by a different mechanic.
