greddy type-s and some other questionsericbev 05-05-2004, 04:02 AM I have a 1997 talon tsi awd. I recently installed a greddy intercooler piping kit, greddy type-s bov(vented into intake), and an injen intake w/filter.. First off, I know the BOV needs to be adjusted just soft of compressor surge... but! I adjusted it to where it felt really strong.. but would still hear surge so i loosened it somore.. Right now I still hear surge (the fluttering noise) if i just barley spool the turbo say 5 psi or so... should i loosen it even more? will i be sacraficing boost at higher rps to rid of compressor surge at all boost levels? cause it seems like it pulled harder with it tighter and surge at lower rpms..Tight for track day loose for daily driving? would a 1G BOV fix the "adjustment" problem? cause people have gone really fast with 1G bovs and they dont have to adjust anything....Also whats your opinions on manual/electronic boost controllers... ive heard mixed reviews from each.. Some people say manual controllers dont spool as fast and you also have to adjust them constantly.....But electronic controllers are just as complicated.. I have a profec B spec-2 and I have yet to install it.... But my friend uses one and says its a pain in the ass to adjust all the time to get good response/stop boost spiking... are electronic controllers all they cracked up to be? thanks for all your time ericbev 05-05-2004, 04:26 AM Also on the type-s unit there is a smaller nipple comming out of the back of the bov... in the install instructions it doesnt say shit about that nipple... but i did some searching... and found some install pics for type-s bovs.... most didnt connect a hose to this... i read in diagram of a bov that the bottom nipple (may or may not) be connected... but a pressure source can be connected to help push the valve up on higher boost engines... i beleive they said to put the t fitting that the type-s kit includes and put in on the line going from the BCS to the actuator/compressor... what is all your input on that also! plz help! BoostedSpyder 05-05-2004, 04:39 PM here is my solution to adjusting the type-s BOV that i copied and pasted from a thread titled 'GReddy' ok... the purple isn't #1 on the list of things that make it a great BOV... lol... i can vent mine with no problems, i just 'harden' it up and let it blow all over the place!!!! lol but really... i made a mark with a marker [duh] so you have a reference point to start at. harden 1 revolution and take it out for a spin. when i take mine out i will test the characteristics of closing the throttle at high rpm/boost regime in, say, 2nd gear. if it is too loose, it will blow with the slightest change of throttle position. too tight and you will jerk and hicup the engine. adjust accordingly and you should be fine in all regimes of everyday driving. now if you want to race just harden like 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn and you will be fine. GREDDY ROCKS!!! that should help out. that nipple isn't connected on mine either. i constantly played with the adjustments for probably months and i am very comfortable with it now, and i have found it has a sweet spot that whistles when you are in it. as for the b-spec II there was a huge thread about it that just passed try a search on 'profec' and you should see it. i love mine and i think a 5 yr old could tune it correctly. Nstyle29 05-05-2004, 09:51 PM I dunno if it is different with all engines but i heard a lot of people say that the Type S should have like 7 or 8 threads showing and that is usually sufficient and from there you can make your minute changes. BoostedSpyder 05-06-2004, 02:40 PM just follow that stuff i said for adjustments. every setup will vary a little bit... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
