Hey guys. i've ahd my 240sx for 2 months now, and its been good to me from the start, even in killing a camaro. But ive been having the check engine light coming on lately. Today was the 4th time.

The first time started 2 weeks ago at 2:00 am. I turned my car on and didnt wait for it to warm up, i just drove. the light comes on for a while, when i got in the freeway it went away.

The next week, i take time to wait a minute or so to warm up and it happened again in the morning on my way to school but disappeared in the freeway again....

It happened the following week after i went to the movies and disappeared in the freeway again....

And today, i warmed it up, drove for 2 minutes and while i was going in 4th gear @ 2000 rpm on the street, the light came on . I got to my house, turned the car off and on again ,and the light was still on. Any ideas of what's going on? Any suggestions highly appreciated.

check your ecu and see what codes it puts out.

probably O2, usually the check engine light comes on when a emissions control device is not working properly, and from the looks of things..you like to race since you said you beat a camaro which would probably cause a speratic voltage in your sensors during the larger gas flow when you opened the throttle. But i could be wrong, check your codes and see what you get

I Actually I Had That Same Problem And Its A Sticky Egr.... The Reason Why It Goes Away Under Freeway Driving Is Because Exhaust Gas Flow Finally Breaks It Free. I Ran Seafoam Through My Engine And It Went Away For A While Then Finally I Just Removed The Egr And Cleaned It Throughly And Now I Don't Ever Have That Problem.

Check Your Ecu Codes To Confirm But I Honestly Think Its The Same Problem I Had.

Most likely your egr like musicsurfman said. Although mine just turned on one day and never went off. Check your ecu and see what code it says. EGR malfunction should be 32 IIRC. You can either repair/replace it, or just take it off completely and plug up the holes. It's not needed. To plug up the exhaust manifold you are going to need a m24x1.5 plug.

Here's how to read the codes
http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecm_codes_doch.htm

and the EGR is located behind the motor. I'll go take a pic of mine real quick. Check back in like 10 minutes or so for the pic.

you will see 2 things back there, the egr valve and the egr-bpt valve (back pressure transducer).
