Newcomer - Hi! Have head gasket ? 2000 Neonpohjonen 05-04-2004, 07:58 PM Hello everyone. Last year a bought a used 2000 Neon and it has a very slow oil leak. Alton's tells me it's the head gasket (rear driver side of motor.) I thought they had solved this problem before the 2000 model. Is it possible it's leaking oil from somewhere else? It has 45 k miles on it and lost a quart of oil in 5000 miles. Oil is clean, it leaks onto the garage floor. Appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thanks! 5spd 05-05-2004, 01:04 PM Look at the cam position sensor. It has a very small seal (green but you won't see it till you remove the sensor). A leak there is very common for neons but usually it is only a minor leak. blachdohcneon 05-05-2004, 08:04 PM my cam sensor leaked alot! very possibly the problem Y2kNeon 05-05-2004, 08:10 PM This question isn't quite related to the original question, but I just thought I'd ask it: About 1500 miles after my last oil change, I was fooling with my intake and noticed there was a LOT of oil sitting in the bottom of my intake manifold. I put a paper towel around a screwdriver and got it all outta there just fine. Awhile later (maybe 1000 miles), there was another small amount of oil in the bottom of my manifold. The only thing I can think of that I did differently was that I put 5 quarts of oil instead of the "4.5" that the manual says. Could I just be somehow overflowing? heh. xs29l 05-12-2004, 12:44 AM Both of our 2000 Neons had the cam sensor leaking. One was leaking about a quart every 1000 miles, but when I replaced the seal, no more leaks. I never would have thought that little seal could lose that much oil, but it was. I seriously doubt that is a head gasket problem, I have never heard of one going in the newer cars. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
