I have an 83 Olds. Cutlass Supreme Brougham, 307 Engine Code Y, 303,000 miles on it. Runs great. I have ticking/rattling noise underneath the hood around the bottom of the block or around the bellhousing, and exhaust manifold. Does anyone know what the h*** it is? Because it's really scaring me. It only does it when it's very cold and when i'm accelerating, idling it doesn't do it. HELP!!!!! I've invested too much in this car for the motor to blow up now. Today when I was backing out of my drive way (uphill) It seemed to miss/jutter as I was going up the hill and then it stopped. After that it ran fine, accelerates awesome.

Hello,
I would suggest checking you catalytic converter. If it gets plugged it backs up the exhaust gasses. The exhaust mainfold to exhaust pipe gasket can get 'blown out' from this and could also explain the stalling you've experienced.
Take care, Mark

It didn't really stall, it just seemed like it was going to stall. How do I check the catalytic converter? It shouldn't be clogged up because it's not even a year old, I got a brand new exhaust system from catalytic converter all the way back. Thanks

Hmmmm, still sounds like a possible exhaust leak. You may want to start by taking it back to the shop that repaired the exhaust system. Have them give it a quick inspection.

Ok, thanks. I'll do that.
