I am looking for any advice on replacement air filters for my 2000 GTP. Does any one have any information about K&N filters. Phram's cost $15.00 and a K&N cost $41.00 and is stated to give better performance and is cleanable and re-usable. Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the K&N...its the only way to go with an aftermarket airbox

I've put a K&N in every car I've owned for the past 10 years. Although you probably won't notice peformance difference, it's worth it to know that you'll never have to replace it.

It's also nice knowing that the punks at those quicky oil change places will never hassle you about how dirty your stock air filter is and try to talk you into a new one.

Yes I had one before I changed over to the k&n cone filter It just deletes the air box creating more space and better air flow.I really noticed a difference.Maybe not so much horsepower but it seemed to be able to hold the gears a little longer. As they say the less restrictive the more air flow the better the engine runs.

I've put K&N's on several cars that I've owned.. Including a Dodge that my wife use to drive.. And from just the filter install..There was a big increase in intake noise.. So much so, that I put a stocker back in..

I hope Grand Prix's arn't like that, cause I want to try one.. I might try a new Fram "Air Hog" first..

Well, I've heard that there is a big difference in intake noise on the GTP's...that you can really hear the supercharger with a K&N. Me, I WANT to hear mine...strike a little fear in the hearts of all those GM F-bodies and Mustangs that want to play.

It does make it alot louder,I have a cold air intake with a cat back exhaust. And when you step on the gas when your in neutral it makes this loud whine but it really sounds cool and alot of peaple look and then they know its supercharged.

I think this thread is getting confused.

A full cold air intake system with a K&N filter that replaces the stock "air box" and f-duct will increase the noise of your intake alot. If you have the supercharged engine you will be able to hear the whine of the supercharger clearly at full throttle. You may also hear "rushing air" depending on the aftermarket cold air kit you went with. Your also going to pick up some power with either engine.

I think the original poster was referring to the K&N drop in stock replacement filter for the stock airbox. This would not increase intake sound much at all. What is mainly responsible for quieting the intake noise is the restrictive airbox and the f-duct (ribbed piece that connect the airbox and throttle body).
