I have this idea. I'm going to get this 1990 chevy lumina for free. Well is has a pussy 3.1 with like 190,000 miles on it. I was thinking of stepping it up abit. now i was thing going 3.8 but i cant find anyway to buy a kit. But first of all can this be done which it should be able too. and where would i get the parts could some one give me a idea. but i know it wount ever keep up with my caramo. But this lumina is going to be a little experiment car. some if some one could give me an idea that would be great and thanks.

to quote legodragonxp on 3100-3800 engine changes:

"This isn't a small undertaking. The computer (and therefore your theft deterent system) need to be changed. Transmission isn't the same, so you'll need to get a different one. I believe the engine craddle is also different so that might need to be replaced as well (requiring the entire front suspension to be tore apart and reassembled). For the amount of work involved, it would probably be better to just live with a rebuilt 3.1 and find a used LTZ. -Lego"

I dabbled with the idea both in my current 99 lumina and my old 91 cutlass supreme. Both brought me to this same conclusion. But hey, if you got the money to kick around, go buy a car that had the 3.8 and just carry everything over from one to the other. There are no kits from what I've researched, and I didn't have the money to even toy with the idea beyond ink and paper. Sorry, but one's one and the other is just that.
