I'm considering trading in my F150 for a nicer ride, since I came across a cherry 1994 deville. The seller is asking $6,000, and the car appears to be in mint condition with 60,000 miles. Which is ironically the same mileage as my truck. The history on the car is that it has been garage kept by the sellers father, who recently died, and left the car to him.

At present I could really use a big car. My wife and I were thinking about getting an SUV, but I could really do without a car payment on a $30,000 suv right now, and the caddy would give us all the room we need, with a much nicer ride. My biggest concern however is reliability. Consumer reports lists the car as just average, and I've read a few things that said the car is expensive to fix. I'm also concerned about the fact that the Northstar was introduced in 94, and perhaps they needed a few years to work all the bugs out?

If anyone here who owns one of these cars could shed some light on this for me with their own experiences, or has any knowledge about the reliability of Northstar in 94' I'd appreciate it. I'd hate to sell a perfectly good, and highly rated truck only to aquire a luxury money pit, that spends more time in the shop than on the road.

The 94 DeVille is a nice comfortable ride and FAST with the Northstar.
BUT that was the first year of the Northstar and it has oil burning problems - a quart @ 1000 miles is normal. Also the Computer Control Ride is very expen$ive to fix.
I worked for Cadillac for 27 years and now that I retired I bought 95 Park Avenue. Great Car, Great Ride, Great Gas Mileage (30 highway) and the parts are inexpensive. I don't see the repeated failures that Cadillac had.
There's also a lot of good guys over at the Buick Forum. :iceslolan
