CEL flashing on and off on my 2000 rodeo... mk4star 04-29-2004, 08:55 AM
the CEL on my 2000 rodeo came on a few weeks ago (along with the left turn signal not working properly, it was stalling when idle, and we needed new brakes). the front and rear brakes were replaced (for the first time after 75,000 miles and now they are sqeaking - is this just brake dust and will it go away??) they re-set the computer, and it was fine for a while. ($300) the CEL came back on again and it was still stalling when idle, so we took it back to the garage and had a full check-up done anyway because it was time. they changed the spark plugs, timing belt, and a few other things it needed. they thought some kind of oxygen sensor was causing the stalling problem, but then found a cracked plastic piece, and now it is running smoothly again. ($600) BUT... the CEL came on again and now flashes on and off... we took it back to the garage (3rd time in 4 weeks) and they changed the spark plugs and re-set the computer again for free. but the CEL is still flashing on and off... anyone able to offer advice??? :banghead: rodeo02 04-29-2004, 06:18 PM The stalling at idle sounds like a cracked intake manifold gasket. Very common. Denso spark plugs are the only known spark plugs (presently) that the 2000+ isuzu 3.2 & 3.5 will run on properly. Any other spark plugs will cause issues. Have seen this countless times now. Make sure your shop used denso K16PR-P11 plugs & nothing else. Do a search on these topics & you'll find tons of stuff. The flashing CEL is most likely caused by misfires due to the wrong spark plugs installed. The IMG replacement is not too complicated or expensive either.
