My check engine light came on and I was told I needed to replace my EGR valve and gasket. They cleared the code, then it came on again. After a day it went off and it hasn't come on again (it has been over a week). Can someone tell me what if any harm I will do if I don't replace the valve and gasket anytime soon?

It might not be your EGR. There is a DPFE sensor on the front of the intake that will go bad & give you the po151? code for EGR valve. Follow 1 of the hoses from the EGR & you'll find it, about 2x4 inch rectangle with 2 hoses & 1 electrical connection. It detects the flow through the EGR & over time they corrode inside. Ford dealer offers a plastic one that resist corroding about 75 bucks. I found this out after replacing EGR valve because of CEL code. Not replacing anything will make the computer cominsate by i.e. running lean/rich, running sluggish, bad emissions. Good Luck!

More than likely it is your DPFE Sensor, Ford has extended the warranty on this sensor till end of 2005 at no cost to the consumer. I had the same problem and symtom and took mine to the dealer, he replaced the sensor and my truck runs much better and smoother. Be sure and check with your dealer, it is covered, should fix your problem and your out no out of pocket money.........
