Okay, I have a 95 Neon Sport (4dr) w/the 2.0 sohc Auto. I do a lot of
highway driving. The car has 163k miles on it. I am sure that the
engine and trans will start giving me problems soon. I was thinking
of going with the Dohc motor, but is there an Overdrive transmission
that I can use? I've noticed that running about 85 or 90 that I am
taching about 3700 to 4000 Rpm's. Also, what all will I have to change
to use the Dohc, and o/d trans if I can find one. I know that I will also
have to do something with the gear stick as it does not have an
indicator for O/D. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The first gen automatics came with only a 3-speed tranny, hence why there isn't any o/d indicator. And it really depletes alot of potential performance from the DOHC motor. But these tranny's are pretty much bullet proof if you take care of them properly. My Neon had all kinds of engine problems but the tranny never let me down. Your best bet would be to swap a 5 speed tranny. It would be cheaper and easier to do than look for a 4 speed tranny. You also will need a new PCM if you swap. There are specific ones for SOHC/DOHC and auto/manual Neons.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I will have to stay with the auto, my girl friend can't drive a 5 spd, or she can but refuses to, and I built the car for her. Thanks for the reply!
