2000 Interior lights, daytime running lights Melanie1854 04-23-2004, 01:56 AM
I just bought a 2000 Camry LE 4 cyl (love it!) but the owners manual was not in the glove box. I see from various websites that daytime running lights are standard. Can anyone tell me how the manual says to activate them? I understand that they can be turned on or off, but I need to know how. Also, the interior lights do not come on when the door is opened, something I must have when coming home at night. Any clues on that one? Thank you!!] mrtwo 04-23-2004, 09:27 AM interior light, change bulb? capisculosa 04-23-2004, 09:31 AM i have this issue....but mine only work when the ignition is set to acc... wiring for me, Joe W 04-23-2004, 02:26 PM The daytime running lights cannot be turned off.The only way that that won't come on when the engine is running is to have the handbrake on.On the domelight there is a switch that says DOOR-OFF-ON make sure this is set to DOOR.If it still don't work,it's probably a bad bulb. csaxon 04-23-2004, 05:17 PM To disable your daytime running lights, Toyota TSB EL011-00 Oct 6 2000 lists a procedure for removing pin 10 from the DRL main relay connector D6. Or,to turn off your DRL's -- you'll want to unplug the DRL resistor pack in the engine bay, located in the corner near the passenger side firewall. If you look in that corner about a foot down or so, there's a metal box roughly the size of a pack of gum, maybe a little bigger. It sits on a metal bracket and is attached at a 45 degree angle to the corner. It'll probably have some kind of "don't touch" label on it since it gets pretty hot under use. If you know where your engine diagnostics connector is, it's roughly in the same corner except closer to the firewall and further down. Unsnap the two connectors and your daytime running lights are off. csaxon 04-23-2004, 05:29 PM Melanie 1854 The interior light switch is a 3 position switch - on ,off, and on when door opens. Are you asking about the twilight light switch position that automatically turns the headlamps on in darkness or the daytime running lights? Melanie1854 04-25-2004, 01:03 AM I am speaking of the daytime running lights. The headlights stay on when I get out (for a few secs, would like to make it longer!). The daytime runners are not coming on at all, ever. Perhaps if I reverse the procedure you described they will be on again. AS FOR THE INTERIOR LIGHTS, DUH! THANK YOU, THAT WAS EASY! (My first Toyota, was a GM girl!) Melanie1854 04-25-2004, 01:05 AM Thank you for the interior light reply, duh. Easy as pie. Daytime running do NOT come on, will try the reverse of what is done to disable them. Many thanks. capisculosa 04-25-2004, 08:10 AM nasty Joe W 04-25-2004, 01:54 PM I believe (may be wrong) that only the Camrys made in Canada had the DRL's.
