hello this is my first post on this site and everyone seems to know what they are doing. Anyway i have a '98 Intrigue with a 3800 S2 and it lost power until it is almost un-driveable and sits dormant in my garage. I checked the fuel pressure recently, from the line before it hit the rail and was only getting about 15 psi which amazed me that it was still running at all, I bought a new pump for it and intend on installing it tomorrow does anyone know where it is located and the easiest way to install it, it looks like a "drop in" pump but the gas tank is over the back seat. Any help is GREATLY appreciated,

thank you,

Nick

Do you mean under the back seat? If you do, the back seat comes out. The common placement of fuel pump access on fwd cars is in the front of the trunk under carpet. Or under the rear seat. The seat usually comes out by pushing to the rear of the car on the front of the lower seat coushion and lifting. Other FWD cars had nuts holding the seat in place in the crack of the seat.

Speaking of the fuel pump. I just got done looking at my 2002 Helm Intrigue service manuals. I don't see any mention of fuel pump or tank. Does anyone know if this stuff is included in the Helm manual. I would think it should for $135.00

To answer your question look under the rear seat and in the trunk for an access door. I would assume the pump/sending unit would come out as a unit.

I am pretty certain that the only way to r and r that fuel pump is to drop the fuel tank from underneath the car. This is a GM product, after all!!

My bad. I take that back; apparently there is an access hole; alldatadiy.com describes a procedure to remove the "fuel sending unit" and it looks like the access hole is in the trunk, just behind the rear seat.

The index in the Helm factory shop manual sure sucks! You'd think "Fuel Pump", "Fuel Tank", "Fuel Sender Assembly" would all be listed in the index, yet there is nothing! My Helm manuals are 2001, so I don't think there is much difference to 2002, and the fuel related items are located in chapter 6, "Engine Controls". In my manual, the Fuel Tank R&R is pg 6-895, the Fuel Sender Assembly is pg 6-905 which is where the fuel pump is located according to the "Fuel System Description" on pg 6-969. I did not see any specific section describing how to remove the fuel pump, but maybe it's obvious once you remove the Fuel Sender Assembly.
