Resetting the Maintenance Reqd lightbatsbats 04-21-2004, 10:52 PM Hi, we just got a 1990 Dodge Ram van from a relative and the Maintenance Reqd light is on. I need to know how to shut it off. I have the owners manual but it does not say how to shut it off. I would appreciate any help. bignoisey 04-27-2004, 09:59 PM You may find a procedure in a Hanes or Chilton's repair manual for that model to read out the trouble code that caused the light to come on. The codes are usually listed in these books. If you don't want to buy a book, sometimes they might have these at a public library. They also sell scan tools for these pre-ODB2 models fairly reasonably which should allow turning off the light. You could also pull the fuse for the engine control module - or just disconnect the battery ground terminal for a couple of minutes to see if that clears it. But it's likely to come back on if you don't fix whatever caused it to come on in the first place. Good luck batsbats 05-01-2004, 07:13 AM I did manage to find a Chiltons on Ebay and it looks like I need one of those code things....well, I'm not gonna bother cuz it'll just come on again. I just decided to put black tape over it. LOL. I was hoping it was just a little ''turn the key with your foot on the brake'' type thing but since it's not. Oh well.........Thanks anyway. BleedDodge 05-01-2004, 02:07 PM If that light comes on, it means something needs attention. Don't be a fool, fix your van! slantsixness 05-03-2004, 12:40 PM turn the key on-off-on-off-on and leave on count the flashes and read the codes. No codes flashes 5, then 5 flashes. All other codes are in the manual or www.allpar.com Listen to BleedDodge! Fix it or it'll mess up your Van. The fixes are SOOO easy so, why did you waste time taping over the light???? Slantsixness Ramcamper B-350 10-04-2004, 07:41 AM Hi, tis light is not an emergency light! On some Modells it comes at 60 000 miles, some at 120 000 to remember you to let some money at a dodge station for bigger inspection. It is not a "damage light".
