air conditioner conversion

Has anyone had their old freon system changed over to the new system? I am told it is the dryer and valves that need to swapped and then the system blown out before putting in the new freon.

I am just wondering about cost estimates compared to what the shop is going to give.

Also, is this something that can be done at home?

When done right, you won't know the difference. Replace the dryer (accumulator) and add PAG oil to replace the stock refridgerator oil. New fittings are required (included in the kit), and new test gauges are needed for testing; the old R-12 gauges won't fit.

be shure you flush the condencer(thing in front of radiator) and the evarorator (thing by ac fan) with a flush solvent to get the old r-12 oil out. if you dont have a flush gun just pour some into the hoses and use 30lbs of air pressure to blow it all out. I just let it blow onto the ground (some poeple try to save it and use it over cause its kinda spendy stuff) you also need to pull a vacuum on your system with a vacuum pump. when ready to charge put in half as much 134a (if 3lbs r12 than 1.5lbs 134a) to start than add more as needed to get it as cold as you want. Iv had good luck converting most of our tractors.
