do i need a lifter change? perna00 04-21-2004, 04:41 AM
i'm going to change my cams (2.4 dohc) on my cavalier and was wondering if i need to change the lifters/springs. any thing i should check or change along with the cams? my car is a 96 w/ 95k. C_Sephiroth 04-21-2004, 07:18 AM I am not sure about tappets (which are in the OHC engines (or followers)) But when you change a cam in a normal engine you would normally change the lifters too. The only reason you would have to change the springs is if you had a much higher cam lift. perna00 04-21-2004, 08:47 AM the lift is .029 higher on the exhaust and .006 on the intake. the same springs work? GRANDAMLD9 04-21-2004, 11:53 AM doing the seceret cam swap i take it. It is recommended by GM to replace the lifters when you change cams. But unless you are changing to a pair of brand new cams, but if you not people who do this swap use their old lifters with the junk yard cams. http://www.quad4forums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=694 perna00 04-21-2004, 09:53 PM thinks it's true that it gains about 10-20 horse? i got quite a few other mods. GRANDAMLD9 04-22-2004, 12:29 AM thats what people claim C_Sephiroth 04-22-2004, 05:25 PM I would change the Followers just because you have it all apart, and you don't want to get it all back togethere and you have a ticking noise. that would suck.
