2000 Intrigue PCS light

I recently bought my 2000 Intrigue with 24,000 miles. In the few months I have owned it, I have added another 22,000 miles to it. I have noticed many of the quirky behaviors mentioned on this forum such as oil consumption and headlights flickering and am relieved that they are relatively minor problems.

For the past week, my car has been hesitating or stalling when it first starts. When this happens the 'service vehicle soon', PCS and Trac Off
message light on the dash and stay lit. This has happened at least 8 times in the past week. If I drive the car for about 10 minutes on the highway and turn it off, it will restart with no problem and the lights will not come on. Yet it if sits for more than 2 hours the problem. It will do it again on restart. The weather has been pretty mild so severe cold isn't a factor.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure I'm familiar with the "PCS" light.

Have you had the codes read out?

I think it is a more severe case of my hesitation problem.

PCS is Precision Control Steering. From what I read about PCS (I'm showing my ignorance now) is that it helps control the car in certain situations such as uneven road surface, or sharp turns etc. When I have experienced this problem I have been driving on a straight, smooth road.

I have had a similar problem. The car stalls (only rarely) and then the PCS light is on until I restart the car. I also have an intermittent problem with the power door locks - won't lock, will unlock - and I wonder if there is a problem with the Body Control Module.

The service vehicle soon, trac off and pcs light came on again ,but this time I noticed something. first:my workmate has a lexus suv, the same lights came on everytime when raining, the dealer told her that the gas cap was defective and the replacement will remedy the problem.it did. so, second:the day after the rain, the lights of my car(01 intrigue) came on again, not during rain.So I replaced the gas cap($10 at the dealer), put a bottle of fluid injector cleaner(just in case) and removed the k&n air fliter(because the tsb) and put an new paper filter. Also, the negative battery cable under the battery was corroed, so I cleaned it and removed the rust and paint on the chassis to make a good connection, now the car shifts smooth and had no problem during the starting up.Besides of that, I noticed better throttle response. Check the trans fluid, mine had almost 16oz of excess.Hope all this info helps.

update:the weather has come wet again(san diego ca.). the lights came on again.I haven't check the speed sensor wires.also I've noticed that the car "stalls" and the 3 lights came on.It looks that the power for the transmission is cutted for a second, because you can feel the "incorrect shift/ stalling" of the engine. problably de gas cap that I got was defective(common on gm parts) or there is an electrical gremlin arround the electrical wires of the car. any sugestions?

I don't remember what the code was, but I took my car to Mr. Goodwrench and he scanned the computer. It told him that the problem was in the right rear sensor circuit (vehicle speed sensor integral to the hub/bearing assy.). He said 99% of the time that indicated that the sensor had gone bad. They checked the wiring to the sensor first, quoted me $500 - $700 to replace the hub/bearing/sensor unit, and I escaped at that point with a $40 charge for the diagnosis. I went to the discount auto parts store and bought a new hub unit for $110 and installed it myself. That resolved that problem.
