I was curious as to the workability of using aftermarket spotlights on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The maker of these lights is Eclipse Lights and the product is the Driving Halogen Light System.

Now these lights can either be front or top mounted. But my concern lies in the fact that the owner's manual said that the airbag sensors are in the front bumper and never install a winch, snowplow or any other aftermarket equipment as it could possibly interfere with the operation of the airbag sensors.

Is this true even of small halogen light lamps like the Eclipse model? If so, is there some other way I can mount them without causing damage? I work in emergency services, and having these lights would be a godsend in night-time search and rescue.

Thanks for your time.

I think it would be ok for you to install the lights man, but I would suggest getting PIAA spotlights or something similar, they are awesome, believe me, I dont know what that Eclipse system is all about, but PIAA is good stuff, but its kinda expensive too...

Well I don't think it should bother them. I know several folks who have after market fog lights, however allmost all of them are mounted underneath the bumper, not on top. I guess this is do to them being for fog lights. There is one jeep in the parking lot that has his fog lights on top of the bumper and he complains they don't work well, and has been repeatedly cussed out because people think he has his bright lights on, he wired them into the headlight system so there is no way to turn them off by themselves, either all his lights are on, or off. Sombody actually wired their fogligts to the blinker, and that looks very funny, not to mention blinding when they turn.

I have been trying to find a set of factory for my 1997, but they are far and few inbetween. None of the dealers have them. It is on my project to do list.

I mounted a spotlight on my tow hitch, and put a switch in. If somebody gets behind me with there bright lights on I turn that flood on, and that fixes the situation really quickly.

no the light would not will not effect the AIR BAG SENSOR.
the reason why a Plow or winch affects it when u mount it to the bumper. it when u hook a winch cable around a tree and turn the winch on it pulls on the bumper telling the AB Sensor that u may have been hit, and a plow when ur plowing snow the plow is bouncing all around with bumps and such, and shaking the bumper telling the AB sensor that u have been hit, therefor deploying the AirBAg.

that hitch lite is deffinately one of the best ideas I have heard, and it would be great to replace (not ot replace but to assist) those dull back up lights. I hope u don't mind if I do the same.
