1992 Roadmaster problem

I've developed a problem with my Buick 1992 Roadmaster 5.7 Litre engine. It started hitching as I was driving down the highway. When I pulled up to a stop sign, it stalled. When I restarted, it stalled again just at the touch of the gas pedal. At the fourth try it chugged its way up to highway speed. When I stopped in front of my house, it stalled again. It would barely turn over this time and would not start. It acted like it was seizing but the temperature hand hasn't moved but the coolant in the radiator is down a couple of inches from what it was a few days ago. Also I'm sure the oil level is higher than it was but I'm not positive. After it cooled off, it started and idled perfectly but it bogs out when I try to accelerate and makes a loud roar when I push the accelerator down. Has anyone any ideas?

two things you said have me worried:

a)coolant is lower
b)oil is higher

This means one or both of two things, and neither is pretty.

1)you have a leaky head gasket.
2)you have leaky intake gaskets.

You can repait them yourself, just make sure you can devote a weekend to it. Or a dealer can do it for you.

Thanks for your reply. Did you mean air intake when you said intake gaskets. (I'm not a pro). If so that would explain the overheating.

Took the car for a drive tonight (about 5 miles). Worked absolutely perfect. However, when I got home, I shut the engine off and immediately turned it back on. It would barely turn over and was kicking back with some backfiring through the exhaust. I wondering if I have a timing problem. What do you think?

P.S. There was no overheating.

Not air intake, Intake manifold. It's piece on top of the engine. Thats the best I can do without getting technical :lol:
