I'm comin' into some money in about a year or so, let's just say i'm not all that thrilled with the way my '86 Ranger runs, so I thought maybe I would put a new engine in just for the hell of it when I get the money to do so. What I wanna know is, how much is a 4.0L V-6 from a 2004 Ranger gonna run me?

I can guarentee it will be cheaper, easier, and more worth the effort to put a 5.0L in it. More power, cheaper, easier, cant go wrong. Good luck.

I dunno man...Somehow I don't see how I could possibly fit a 5.0L under the hood of my truck

It's possible to put a 5.0 in it. Lots of people have done it. I guess it all depends on what you plan on using it for. If you plan on using the truck for an everyday beater, or if the truck is in good condition enough to fix up. What I'm trying to say is that if the truck is a rusted out wreck, it doesn't pay to go through the trouble with replacing the engine, but if the truck is in good shape, then I would go with a 5.0.
There's websites that'll show how a V-8 swap is done, and adapters can be bought from James Duff and Advance Adapters.
By the way, you got a 2.9 in the ranger now? If so, I might be interested in buying the upper intake manifold from you when you pull the motor. :smokin:

The body and everything is good on it, just needs some good tlc ya know, basic shit underneath; but the HP is really weak and it gets on my nerves, I just want some power so maybe I can tow a trailer behind it and carry my four-wheeler around, that was the whole purpose of me buying a truck and my Grandma buys me somethin' that won't even pull a trailer. And it's a 2.3 man, sorry, otherwise i'd be glad to hook you up for a reasonable price. So altogether how much would you say a 5.0L and all the adapters and such would run me?

you could build up that 4 cyl you already have in there and have plenty of power.check into performance parts for your 4 cyl before you do anything. the 5.0l swap is a lot of work and money just to pull a 4whlr around.i pull my chevelle behind my 2000 3.0l with no prob and only abt 180hp.
