Hello all, I did tons of engine work on my cousins 1996 V8 JGC (replaced engine). I am sure everything is fine and all sensor connected. However, when I try to start it, it catches but then nothing.

I have read mostly all of the messages for JGC and see that there could be a theft deterant system in place that needs to be reset after a long time with no power.

However, I see no clear procedure to clear this security. Can someone please tell me how to clear this. Any help would be appreciated.

Stuff I checked.
-No error codes after the 3 key things, just get code 12 and 55.
-I borrowed a scanning tool and it shows no code either.
-I see spark
-I see fuel pressure at fuel rail
-put a fuel injector tester and see it blink only once, this would explain the catch
-battery is good 13.3V, 11 during crank.

I have a 94 JGC. When I replaced the battery, the theft deterrent system would not let it start. It turns over, but doesn't catch. If you use the remote to lock and unlock the doors, it resets the alarm system. You probably noticed the security light on the dash flashing to tell you it was keeping the JGC from starting.

Not sure on that one. The only thing that I know is that it has a very simple alarm. If the purple/yellow wire in either front door sees a ground, it will disarm. The JGC that I have messed with ( I install remote starters) would still start with the alarm going off. I think that you have the crank position sensor way off or something????

HI YOU SAY YOU SEE SPARK AT, AT PLUGS OR WHERE. HAS IT RAN SINCE YOU REPLACED THE ENGINE OR ARE YOU JUST NOW TRYING TO START IT. YOU MAY HAVE SPARK AT THE PLUGS WIRES BUT IT'S NOT HOT ENOUGH TO FIRE UNDER COMPRESSION, ARE ALL THE IGNITION PARTS SYSTEM NEW,CAP,ROTOR,WIRES,PLUGS. JUST A FEW THINGS TO CHECK. Try what Dale says, it sounds like the right thing to do.

I found a solution that is quick and easy and worked to reset the security system. Insert key into the rear hatch lock turn to the right. The horn beeps a couple of times and viaola! system resets.

what I understand it catches but nothing to mean, that the starter catches the torque converter but stops, does it tick (ticktickticktick), or just 1 big TICK and thats it nothing>
if it is one TICK and nothing. then one of ur plugs is locked up (water in the combustion chamber) or a coupled plugs locked up,

FIX: disconnect all the wires from the spark plugs.
take out 1 plugs out a time and try to start it, then leave that plug out and go on to the next after removing each one try to start it and c if it cranks. if it does then u know which plug was locked. u will have to replace all PLUGS and do an OIL and OIL FILTER change.

I would crank it for a few seconds b4 puttin new plugs in just to make sure u get all the water out of the combustion chamber. also remove the Fuel Pump relay b4 doing this so u don't get gas everywhere.

1 more thing, it may take awhile to get it started after this but don't worry it will start also have another car availble to jump it. cuz the battery will die from time to time, have someone with a truck (V8 Recommended), I tried to jump mine using a Olds Cutlass Ciera after I had this prob. but the car couldn't keep my battery and it's battery charged while trying to start. and don't let it crank for more then 8 seconds at a time, u could damage the starter.
damn this is alot of typing I hope this works.
