When does torque pass transmissionwheel1856 04-15-2004, 09:37 PM So now Im pimpin around the mid-atlantic in my recently purchased 97 civic DX, hating it cause I had to sell the GS-R to my mom due to insurance down here and my teacher's salary conflicting, and Im thinkin of all the stuff to do. CAI is on, strut and suspension braces are on, wheels/springs/shocks coming soon. then of course there's the engine work, head swap, intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rail, yada yada yada...so I start thinkin as some how I chird the tires goin into 2nd, what happens when I add all this stuff, and upgrade the clutch/flywheel accordingly, will the tranny hold? is there some sort of engine torque/transmission rating ratio I should know about? Im not swappin the motor, just the head, will the D16Y7 tranny hold with the added torque? likely. but how long before I start tearin teeth? These concerns trouble me my civic bretheren, perhaps your wisdom, at least those of you who avoid talking out your ass, could help. Every time I type torque or tranny or variations in the search menu, I get pages and pages of how Sparq is mean, and WOW! Oz lives in Austrailia, but nuthin good, my manuals are of no help, and the dealerships might as well have monkey working there.... help? merci -wheel wheel1856 04-19-2004, 05:17 PM No love? Too technical? Or stupid question commonplace of a newb? gimme somthin!?! i_a_n112784 04-20-2004, 10:18 AM The stock transmission should last until you get into the mid/upper 200hp, if you're hard on it. So, unless you're going to do a complete engine swap, and turbo, and that stuff, you're fine. If you take care of the transmission, like change your fluid often, and refrain from constantly slamming it into gear, it will last a long time even with the added power. wheel1856 04-20-2004, 06:30 PM ok gotcha that answers my question. thanks vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
