I had my battery replaced today. They got it from the olds dealer -136.00-
# 79-6yr. It is an inch shorter( 12" instead of 13") and the vent wont fit.
Is this the correct battery? If so Why the difference? do they make a vent assy that will fit the smaller battery?

Yes it's the right battery- they just discontinued the bigger one.

Yes they do make an updated vent assy. My dealer's parts counter sucked at finding it though- in fact he was a downright rude bastard after I stood there and pestered him to find a little plastic piece for a half an hour :). Maybe someone can tell you a current part # and save you the hassle.

I just modified my current one- I took it down to the local Ace Hdwr. and found fuel line hose that fit snugly over the plastic tubes to make joints with then cut out what needed to be shortened. I clamped down the hose over the plastic vent tube. I think this all ran me $2 or so.

Thats about what I did. I had them order the new one, but in the meantime, I cut an inch or so out of the old one and reattached it with heat shrink tubing. I wonder why they discontinued the original one? The new one is 880 cold cranking amos, the orig was 975......Seems to me if they have made a superceded part that is that different, they should ship it with the correct vent tube.

<chuckle> Did I mention I tried heat shrink tubing first?

It just didn't seem to seal worth a crap so I went back and got the other hose.
