idle surging problem on startuplukep 04-15-2004, 02:05 PM Hey, new to these forums, when searching for issues related to my Jeep, I kept finding these forums, so I figure this is the place to be. Anyways... Within the last couple days, whenever I start my 94 Grand Cherokee (laredo) for the first time in the morning, the idle will surge between 1000 and 2000 RPM's, slowly, several times over the course of about 2-3 minutes, almost like i'm pumping slowly on the gas pedal, but i'm not. After it does this for a few minutes, it will almost die (dropping to less than 500 RPM's), but then it will recover and then idle smoothly, with no more issues, and I can drive it fine. I have researched this quite a bit and am thinking it could be the Idle Air Control Valve or maybe the IAC Moter as well. Any thoughts or ideas on this? thanks! Dsilver 04-21-2004, 09:44 PM That sounds good man, both of those things could be it, but talk to Dale Appelli, he is pretty knowledgeable about Jeep problems. The idle calmed down and this morning she started up and ran at 700 rpm until warm, then throttled back to a cool 500rpm. thanks Dale! lukep 05-05-2004, 06:01 PM yeah, just an update here, same thing as leowolf for me. sprayed a lot 'o cleaner into the valve body, really settled down my idle probs. awsome. leowolf 06-13-2004, 05:33 PM Problem came back in a week, I replaced the Idle Contol Vavle on the back of valve body. i havent had troubles since. (3 weeks) Cappie86 06-18-2004, 06:25 AM My 93 GC did this same thing for the first time today and then the check engine light came on. I started it as usual and the rpm's went right up to like 2000 and then fluctuated. Ran fine but the check engine light really bugs me. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
