I have experienced sever rotor warping with cheep Brakes Plus after market parts. Can anyone tell me if purchasing factory OE equipment is the right solution? Also, how difficult is rotor and pad replacement for a novice?

Find out if Brakes Plus offers any kind of warranty or guarantee, other than that factory OE equipment can't be wrong for your car, unless you wanted to step up to some nice custom brakes, but from what I hear the skill involved is not too hard, it just takes quite awhile.

I would still suggest what I previously posted.

One thing that I relized about 100,000 miles ago. Jeep rotors are thin. You can pick one up and stack it with any other make they are thinner. It is a design flaw that all cherokee's grand and plain jane has had since the get go.

I try to stay off the brake as much as possible, I usually go thru 2 sets of rotors on the front each year, on 1 set every other year on the back, and usually 1 set of pads a year. I have tried cheap rotors from JCWhitney, factory rotors, pulled rotors off of recked jeeps at pullapart.

It is just the way the system is designed. It is the top pet peave that I have about my jeep and my wifes. Next to that is the price of parts, they are like gold for dealer only parts, and there are tons of them.

I have the 2000 GC Ltd and just did the front brake rotors and pads myself. It was about 3 hours for the first one and 30 minutes for the second one. I wasted a lot of time getting the right tools handy.

The real key is to make sure that the caliper pins (there are 2 of them) are well greased. What happens is that these pins can stick and seize and then all the pressure from your braking goes only to one side of the rotors and then they easily warp.

Also don't go for the OEM rotors. Go for a high quality aftermarket brand. The dealers I have talked to say that the new OEM rotors can warp within 2 weeks again.

Wow I was wondering why all the hot spots on the rotors were only on one side.

What happened to me the last time was the back brakes glazed over so they were not grabbing the rotor, and all the presure was going on the front. Making the problem twice as bad.

I don't have the tools to plane a rotor, so I usually let midas do my brakes, but lately I been thining just not to do that and replace the rotor every time myself. I been checking around and a good set of after market rotors cost as much as a set of oem rotors.

So I guess I am headed down to advance auto in a bit.

Just how excactly do these rotors come off. My manual says to remove the caliper mount bracket and slide rotor off. Good luck. After removing said bracket I 'm having no luck in "sliding rotor off" even after going at it with a rubber mallett!!!!

First is there anything at all in the way? there are 2 bolts that hold on the caliper (rebiult at autozone $14 ea) and lift it off from the bottom. lay it upon the upper a arm shackle and then remove the two star nuts from the rotor face on the lug studs. the rotors may be rusted, the ringing of a steel hammer sometimes helps but usually side right off.

Mopar makes updated calipers that should solve your problems with warping. I have the same problem on my jgc. I just purchased these parts and will post a reply when i have them installed and going. They don't tell people this cause, the vehicle should have been recalled. Chrysler did not recall them though. I hope this helps you. ...ps..you should comlain the the nhsa.
